The very first Morvélo CityCross kicks off this Sunday at Old Shroggs Tip in central Halifax. The CityCross team have recovered from the bombshell of having their original venue at Old Lane Mill taken away from them at the last minute and bounced back with a more traditional cyclo-cross course, but with added extras.
As well as the usual ‘cross elements of racing, elbows, mud, sand and sweat the inaugural CityCross will also feature a beer tent and cowbells plus new elements such as a moto format, manmade obstacles, jumps and multiple lines, all promising to be a unique event in the racing calendar.

To entice you to take part there’s over £8500 worth of cash and product prizes up for grabs from the likes of Morvélo, Vulpine, Bont, Lezyne, Giro, BBB, Maxxis, Dark Star Brew Co, Bell, Chrome, Arundel, Vredestein and Kinesis. And even if you’re not a winner there’s a goody bag for all riders as well as random spot prizes, and thanks to GoPro there’s even a prize for those not racing.
The mini camcorder company are offering their HD Hero 3 as a prize for the best video or photo of CityCross, the winner being something that sums up the atmosphere of the event and its usual but fun nature. Submissions will close 2 weeks after the event and are to be sent to Morvélo for judging.

In between cheering the rounds of gritty racing spectators can gorge themselves on frites, moules, hog roast, wood fired pizza, organic cakes and even Sushi, all washed down with some award winning coffee and beer, and Red Bull to keep the racer's heart-rates up. For the children there will also be soft drinks and bike related games to make sure everyone's entertained.

For those that finish in the top 3 of their categories there will also be handmade trophies made by The Bicycle Academy, and there’s a specially beaten up version of the trophy for last place as sometimes the Lanterne Rouge is the most closely fought position.
Be quick about it and enter online and you’ll be gridded for your heats making sure you don't start at the back.
