Trouble at t'mill - venue change for inaugural Morvelo CityCross in Halifax next month (+ video)

Landlord withdraws permission, but Calderdale Councilprovides old rubbish tip as alternative venue

Cycle clothing brand Morvelo has had to change the location of its inaugural City Cross event after the landowner of the disused mill in Halifax where it was due to take place withdrew permission. The event, on Sunday 3 March, will now take place in a former rubbish tip in the West Yorkshire town.

Morvelo said that after carrying out due diligence including risk assessments, analysis of potential legal liability and arranging insurance, it had received “clear permission” to stage the event through the managing agents acting on behalf of the landowner of the Old Lane Mill where the event was due to be staged. However, that permission was withdrawn last Wednesday.

Thanks to Calderdale Council, an alternative venue has already been secured in Halifax, in the shape of the Old Shroggs Tip. “So it won't have a decaying mill in the background but everything else will be the same,” says Morvelo.

“From the moto format to multiple lines. From the course going through the Dark Star Brew Co. beer tent to speeding down the Kinesis Kowbell Alley. From skidding around Vulpine corner to jumping over Red Bull obstacles. Still the great range of food and award winning coffee and still some nail biting roller racing courtesy of South Coast Sprints. They've even found some cobbles!”

You can find out more information about the event, including how to enter, on its website. Meanwhile, here’s Morvelo’s teaser film, shot at the original venue.
