Bid up for Bradley Wiggins's Olympic throne

Own a piece of cycling history

If you're feeling flush, and that's a spare £10,000 to £15,000 flush, you could have the Bradley Wiggins Olympic throne taking pride of place in your front room.

It's a bit more Footballer's Wives than minimalist chic, but you could own a piece of cycling history when this little number goes under the hammer at Sotheby's on the 5th November.

As the auctioneer's catalogue describes it, this is "the cycling time trial gold medal winner's throne that provided one of the enduring images of the London 2012 Games, when on 1st August at Hampton Court Palace Bradley Wiggins relaxed crossed legged in this magnificently kitsch reproduction golden throne, gave a double-Churchillian V-sign salute and awaited his Olympic coronation." Quite.

Kim Einhorn, one of the directors of Theme Traders, who made the Olympic thrones, told the Kilburn Times that with Wiggins, who grew up in the area, being a local: “We were thrilled when we were asked to provide the chairs for the Hampton Court event.

“Initially we thought they were going to make an Olympic museum at the park but now there’s been so much interest its going for auction.”

The design company, based near Cricklewood Broadway, have also designed props for the sets of TV shows Made in Chelsea and X-factor.

Ms Einhorn added: “It was brilliant to see the image of our chair on every national newspaper and we were delighted because he’s such an amazing icon.

“We are very proud to be involved in it.”

For once, I am in complete agreement with MercuryOne. Wiggo posing on on that vulgar piece of tat was just plain cringeworthy.

The most embarrassing moment of the whole Olympics. I hope it's chopped up for firewood.
