With his dual roles as Team Principal of Team Sky and Performance Director of British Cycling, few people have as much invested in the next couple of months’ racing as Dave Brailsford, who reveals his thoughts ahead of the Tour de France and Olympics. Meanwhile, ahead of Saturday’s Grand Départ in Liège, Team Sky has released an ‘official soundtrack’ that it hopes will inspire its riders to success in July.
Bradley Wiggins goes into the Tour de France as favourite ahead of defending champion Cadel Evans, and there’s a strong feeling that he could become the first British rider to win the race and thereby fulfil the goal Team Sky set itself when it was launched at the start of the 2010 season.
Then, less than a week after the Tour finishes, the London 2012 Olympics begin. Brailsford himself has played down expectations that Great Britain’s cyclists can emulate the eight gold, four silver and two bronze medals the country won at Beijing in 2008.
However, a strong performance at the track world championships in April bodes well for the country’s chances in the ten events at the Velodrome, and plenty of medal opportunities elsewhere, not least from Mark Cavendish and Shanaze Reade, suggests that cycling could again be Britain’s most successful sport at these Games.
In this short video made available by British Cycling, filmed before Team Sky’s line-up for the Tour de France was announced, Brailsford speaks of how he feels that Great Britain has progressed from being seen as an Olympic cycling nation to one that can also hold its own on the road.
Meanwhile. Team Sky have released an official anthem, Go Far (Team Sky) recorded by The Elite, comprising music producers Z-Dot and Dan Dare, who brought in Ollie Sloane to supply vocals.
Team Sky says that the soundtrack will be used across all its channels of communication throughout the Tour and that it “will deliver a distinct musical signature that will resonate with new and existing fans.”
You can get a taster of the track on the video below, or listen to the whole anthem via Soundcloud. The track will be available to download via iTunes and Spotify from 1 July.
