Car flips - please post your local news stories

And there are points, which you can claim for your story. The person with the most points wins a table for four at The Farmer's Dog (second prize : two tables🫢).

The scoring system will probably evolve, in fact suggestions for additional points can be made, but for starters:

Score one point for each of:

Clear picture of car on its roof or side

30 mph limit /residential road

Audi, BMW or "super-car"

Article doesn't mention a driver

Rather artistic photo of this (driverless) car that has ended up on its roof on a dead straight road in Bradford.

https://www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/news/car-left-balancing-on-...

Quote:

A car was left in a bizarre position after it collided with a parked car on Saturday.

The blue Audi that collided with a grey BMW parked in Roseberry Park in Redfield was left almost halfway floating in the air, as it balanced itself on three wheels.

No reference to a driver or even a passenger - the nearest is "The police have confirmed that no injuries were reported due to the collision."

At 2.30pm on Saturday a small hatchback car "came to rest on its side in a precarious position" near the hamlet of Ratlinghope on the west side of the Long Mynd. Three occupants "were escorted out of it". No photo, I'm afraid.

The cars aren't just self-aware now - they're starting to breed.

Egged on by the others, the youngest of the Audis makes the first move.Young and hopeful, it moves in to strike, however youth and inexperience play against the youngling. It attempts it's first mounting maneouvre, relying on it's target not being able to move out of the way, but clearly has no idea how to do the deed.

Surprising- Honda drivers are usually careful, although prone to confuse the brake and accelerator in EVs and smashing down the public toilets (I actually saw this happen here).

A classic! Featuring:

It is a dangerous road, and that's been proved year after year.

I do have some sympathy with "someone gave humans a powered vehicle that could go faster than 5mph, what do you think will happen?" But I'm gonna guess it's not really the road...

Also "waiting for insurance company" - shades of the urban horse-transport crisis of the 19th century where horses rotted in the streets awaiting insurance confirmation that they had actually died in harness...

I cycled past a flipped car last night on Cranbrook Rd, Bristol but it doesn't seem to be reported anywhere. Quite impressive as it was fully on its roof and a whole section of the road was closed.

Meanwhile we have this one on the M32: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/live-m4-traffic-car-overturns-9676596

Hmm, loses points for not being on its roof. But gains quite a few for being a driverless car, in a 20mph, and a very artistic placement on top of a roundabout, with three wheels in the air. A very good effort.

Seconding the little onion - I think there should be both a "fully inverted" score AND "artistic merit" also.  This one reminds me of those planes on roundabouts taking to the air near centres of production e.g. Grangemouth (beside road but good swoop) or Thornaby.

There's definitely a point or two to be had for "how on Earth did he manage that??" in the positioning.

Perth BMW driver who flipped car on M90 'could have endangered many lives'

Quote:

Benjamin Atkins repeatedly braked and accelerated towards a car in front as he drove down the M90, near Glenfarg.

When the other car moved aside to let him pass, the 26-year-old again slammed on the brakes forcing the motorist to take action to avoid a crash.

Atkins then lost control of his car and ploughed into a central reservation, before flipping over and landing on his roof.

Originally charged with dangerous driving, Atkins, of Jura Street, Perth, appeared at the city’s sheriff court and admitted an amended charge of careless driving on the M90, near junction eight.

Full marks here! It's an absolute mystery why this driverless vehicle has ended up on its roof on a wide, straight, 30mph road.

Excellent!  Everyone is baffled and can only state what they see (apart from the police, who reported a RTC).

Another I'd missed last month:

Edinburgh Live wrote:

Edinburgh car flips on busy road by school as emergency services race to scene

Emergency services in Edinburgh raced to the scene of an incident on Monday afternoon, with a car flipped onto its roof on Saughton Road just metres from a school.

On Saughton Road.  30mph limit, daylight, only mention of drivers was out of concern for their wellbeing at the end.

Because putting "busy roads" and schools adjacent goes together like a high-horsepower carriage.

Festival Way flipped car sparking calls for improvements

Car on side, I'm guessing a 30mph limit, no mention of the driver. I make that three points. Do I get an extra point for the article blaming the parked car for the crash?
