Former Argentine national champion takes own life after kidnapping

Cyclist disappeared two days earlier while campaigning for seat on sport's national governing body...

A former national cycling champion in Argentina has committed suicide by throwing himself from a neighbour’s house in mysterious circumstances that are being linked to his having been kidnapped last week.

This Wednesday, Armando Borrajo, aged 34, was due to have been a candidate for election as treasurer to the sport’s national governing body, the Federación Argentina de Ciclismo de Pista y Ruta (FACPyR).

However, on a trip last week to canvass support for his nomination, Borrajo was apparently surrounded and kidnapped, and according to a report on the Argentine website Biciclismo, injured and in shock from his ordeal, took his life two days later on Saturday.

Borrajo’s brother, Alejandro, also a professional cyclist, tried to prevent the suicide, breaking his arm as he attempted to save his brother’s life.

This is so sad. And what his brother must be going through, unbearable pain. Another victim of the kidnapping trend in Argentina. There is so little victim support over there, and so much violence. Worst thing, it's spilling over to neighbouring countries. 2 17
