1. Chichester extends cycling ban and says it's 'not a vendetta' against cyclists'

A ban on cyclists in Chichester city centre’s pedestrian precinct has been extended to include Sundays, reported the Chichester Observer. City and district councillor Len Macey said the move did not represent “a vendetta against cyclists,” arguing: “It’s a pedestrian precinct and by rights cycling should be banned 24/7.”

4. England fans cycle to Russia for World Cup - and to raise money for Bobby Moore charity

Two England football fans are heading to Russia for the FIFA World Cup, pedalling all the way from Hampshire to raise money for the cancer charity, The Bobby Moore Fund – set up in memory of the late West Ham star who as captain lifted the Jules Rimet Trophy at Wembley Stadium in 1966.

5. Focus launches Paralane² e-road bike

Focus has unveiled its new e-road bike, the Paralane², to great fanfare. It’s a lightweight, full-carbon road/adventure bike that uses the Fazua Evation motor system. Focus has produced this rather nice video to back up the launch, showing the bike being put through its paces in a number of different guises: a full-on road bike, a gravel grinder and a bikepacking adventure machine. Builds start at £5,399 and work their way up to an eye-watering £9,299 for the Paralane² 9.9.

6. London 2012 long jump champ Greg Rutherford plans switch to track cycling

Olympic long jump gold medallist Greg Rutherford has said he is planning to switch to track cycling once he retires from athletics this summer. The 31-year-old, who won the long jump at the London 2012 Olympic Games and bronze in the event in Rio two years ago, says that ongoing injuries are behind his decision to quit athletics.

7. Council tells cyclist who complained about potholes on cycle route to fix them himself

A cyclist who complained to Oxfordshire County Council about potholes and overgrown vegetation on a cycle path was told to fix the problems himself – with a councillor even offering to pay for the materials to enable him to carry out the work. "I know they are pushing the big society these days but it's not just a matter of rolling up your sleeves and getting on with it, this is a serious job", said Chris Waites.

8. Six English cities to share £6.5 million government cash for cycling

Six cities across England are to share £7 million cash provided by the Department for Transport (DfT) for projects aimed at improving the safety of cyclists. The funding, announced today by transport minister Jesse Norman, will be shared between Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Leeds, Manchester and Norwich.

Former road world champion Lizzie Deignan says that Team Sky’s Chris Froome has not been given “fair process” following his adverse analytical finding for twice the permitted amount of the anti-asthma drug salbutamol at last year’s Vuelta, which he won.
