A motorist who ploughed through a group of German cyclists in Mallorca, killing one of them, had already been facing a driving ban for drug driving reports the Mallorca Daily Bulletin.
On April 4, a group of twelve German cyclists set out on a ride from their base in Font de sa Cala, Capdepera, heading in the direction of Arta.
Nine of them were hit by Anais Marco, who was driving a Porsche Cayenne in the same direction. Christoph Bohnen, a 47-year-old from Bavaria, lost his life.
Marco tested positive for cannabis and said that she had smoked the night before but claimed not to have done so on the morning of the accident. The Guardia Civil found the stubs of five joints in the vehicle. She said that these were her boyfriend's.
“I’m not a drug addict who goes out on the road to kill eight people,” she said. “When I was going to overtake, they were two in two, but suddenly four went in parallel, occupying almost the entire lane. Suddenly I see that I am on top of the cyclists and hit the brakes.”
She also said that the sun had blinded her and that it was when she put her visor down that she hit them.
A local amateur cyclist told the Olive Press that this clearly wasn’t the case. “The sun rises from the east,” he said. “I’m from there, I’m a cyclist and I’ve gone through the place in question – the road is wide and there is one hundred percent visibility.”
Around three weeks before the accident, Marco was given a fine for driving under the influence of drugs in March 2015. Her driving licence was also withdrawn for a year, but the ban had yet to take effect and she had been able to continue driving.
She was also one of 19 people charged in the Llevant area in 2016, after 2.5kg of cocaine, 4kg of MDMA, 300g of speed and 300 marijuana plants were seized.
Marco has been charged with reckless homicide.

I hope they throw the book at her, hateful.
For the initial drug driving charge; in this country I would like to think that the courts would have stopped her from driving as part of her bail conditions, pending the official driving licence revocation. However, Spain is Spain.
How does that work? Surely if you’re banned, you’re banned?
It doesn't work.
I'd prefer for an immediate ban to be put in place for any road traffic incident where there's serious injury. Just a temporary ban until the cause is assessed and then the ban can be lifted or kept in effect.

Re the stubs all the police have to do is retain and then test for dna to see if she has smoked them. She may then say she forgot she had smoked them previously but if the dna is hers then her defence will be damaged.
There's a clear admission of her own incompetence right there: where she complains that they were almost taking up the entire lane. Idiot! She should jave left the WHOLE lane clear in any case. If she had, no-one would have died.
Don't forget that the law is a bit different over there.
Along with the puta driver, a fair few expats are having a pop at the cyclists and cycling in Mallorca in general. Makes one proud to be British.
Some of the Spanish press is jumping on that bandwagon too. Questioning the amount of cycling going on in Mallorca.
Because obviously the cyclists are in the wrong and not the driver.
There does have to be a seperation here between this driver obviously being an absolute danger that needs the book being thrown at her and a bit of tolerance and understanding for the guiris who don't necessarily understand the rules of the Spanish roads.
I still can't get my head around cyclists having priority on roundabouts when riding in a group. The Spanish struggle with roundabouts, full stop.
It used to be a pleasure riding in Spain, but I can see that there is increase in conflicts in Madrid as the cycling population increases.
The NIMBY problem in Mallorca, particularly from expats is beyond the pale.
Roundabouts are give way to the left in any case in Spain, regardless of what is approaching? Same way it is in the UK, only to the right.

Apart from those 3 major differences, it exactly the same.

Clearly massive level of entitlement going on here. Enough money to be dabbling in coke and driving Porsche and also not to be giving any fucks at all.

I would like to see the words 'Reckless homicide' appearing more often than they do on these sick-making reports.
The bleating 'yeah but, no but..' desperation of the offender suggests they should be wheeled off to a very secure room for a very long time for a very long think.

I hope she gets at least 10 years if not longer. And then 10 years suspended pending community service and a life long driving ban.
I hope she dies a painful death, frightened and lonely after being terrorized by other inmates for many years.
I have no interest in Porsche whatever, as an owner, employee, or anything. However, I fail to see what bearing the make of the vehicle has on this incident, unless it is being cited in an effort to stigmatize Porsche drivers, or the wealthy, etc.

As Notsofast says, it is common practice in news reports of "accidents".
It beats me why, and I certainly have no interest in which brand of car's driver has killed. I always suppose it must be interesting to motorheads, for some reason. Maybe it's like the practice of giving the age of people mentioned.

Fair point, it's the same as stigmatising a poor person in a crappy car.
On the other hand the fact that this car was big and powerful is relevant just as it would be if it was a big powerful HGV. It's also relevant that this car is tall and has excellent forward visibility, superb brakes and can handle unexpected changes in direction with comparitive ease. In other words all the tools were there in abundance for this individual to avoid an accident. In spite of that...
