At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

The Santini Women's Coral 2.0 Winter Long Sleeve Jersey keeps you warm and comfortable in wintry weather. Made of lovely, soft thermofleece fabric, it's a very nice jersey to pull on before a chilly ride. Santini recommends it for between 5 and 15°C and I would definitely agree with this: it kept me warm when I needed it, but was breathable enough that in milder weather or when climbing, I didn't overheat.

  • Pros: Warm but breathable, cosy fleece, extra side pockets
  • Cons: No zip pocket, no gripper on hem

As is often the case with Santini kit, the jersey came up on the small side and I would recommend sizing up here. I'm usually a small, but the medium was a good fit on me. It left room for a couple of thin layers underneath but had no excess material flapping when riding.

The cuffs aren't elastic, nor do they feature a gripper which I found was ideal when tucking in winter gloves. The base of the hem is elastic, but doesn't feature any form of gripper and I was concerned that it would ride up my back when cycling, despite Santini's claims. While it didn't stay completely still, it didn't bunch up my back or cause any discomfort.

The jersey features a total of five pockets, with the standard three on the rear plus a further smaller pocket on each side. This makes for plenty of storage space for food, clothes and tools on longer rides, with the side pockets being easily accessible and especially useful for storing small items like keys and cash for your all-important cafe stop. I was a bit disappointed that there was no secure zip pocket for valuables, though.

It comes in a striking but simple pattern with three colour options of violet, orange or blue; I really liked the design of the jersey which matches the Coral 2.0 Bib-tights I was also reviewing. Santini says the pattern is designed to have a slimming effect and it was certainly a flattering fit.

A reflective strip across the top of the pockets helps with that all-important night-time visibility.

At £79.99 it's not the cheapest jersey out there, but it's about what I would expect to pay – Gore's Element Thermo, for example, has the same RRP. Look around and you'll find cheaper – dhb's Blok thermal jersey is £55 RRP (and currently on sale for less) and the men's version got a good review from Jim – but based on the quality and longevity of past Santini kit I have owned, I'd say the Coral 2.0 is a good buy, and I'd bet on it lasting for a few winters to come.

Verdict

Plenty of storage, comfort and performance for chilly days

Nice and bright from the front. Then dark at the back ? Why would you do that ? What's to be gained from an all black back.
