New tires, sidewall thread showing; advice please?

I ordered new tires, Schwalbe One Tubeless 23s, a few months ago, and they've been sitting on my workbench waiting for the tires already on the bike to wear down before I make the tubeless conversion (rims are tubeless Eastons).

On unboxing them, I find that one has a patch on the sidewall with thinner than usual rubber, so the thread shows through.

I'm thinking that, once they hold air, and the threads aren't damaged, then - particularly with sealant - there's nothing to worry about.

Is that right, or are they dangerous to ride and I need to send them back to the vendor?

They would only rot if they are silk or cotton threads...AFAIK the schwalbe tyres wouldn't have threads that could rot.

personally, i wouldnt worry about safety but I might wonder if the water will get in the threads and they will start to rot (if you ride them in the wet a lot). Thats always a concern for CX tyres. You could paint them with some latex to keep that out, of course. Otherwise, its just a matter of aesthetics.

Thanks - but are you saying you don't think there'll be a problem riding them, or you don't think there'll be a problem exchanging them?

I don't think there is a problem , ring supplier and send photos. Places like wiggle would likely take them back and replace if you have a returns note.

(there are some similar patches on the tire insides, though not opposite the thin patch on the outside)
