DT Swiss will be launching a Mon Chasseral version of the RC 28 Spline wheels in its 2016 range, lighter than existing RS 28 Spline wheels and designed to offer a high-standard braking performance. Here’s a quick look.
The RC in the name means that the rim is made from carbon, and the 28 refers to the rim depth in millimetres. Those details are the same as for the existing RC 28 wheels but DT Swiss say that the Mon Chasseral version, named after a Swiss mountain, is made with a new resin compound that’s far more heat resistant. The idea is to deliver a better braking performance. DT Swiss reckon that the braking standards here are clearly above DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung, meaning German Institute for Standardisation) rules.

The wheels come with a completely re-engineered Spline hub based on DT Swiss’s well-respected 180 hub but with a full carbon-fibre shell. They use new Sinc Ceramic hybrid bearings that are designed to reduce friction and increase durability.
The wheels use 28mm carbon clincher rims with a 21mm outer width and a 15mm inner width. DT Swiss are generally moving towards wider rims, following the trend towards wider tyres, but these are fairly narrow by recent standards.
Like all of DT Swiss’s new wheels from model year 2016 onwards, they’re tubeless ready. The relevant tape and valve will be included in the package, as are Swiss Stop Black Prince braking pads Titan RWS skewers and the washer you’ll need if you want to fit a 10-speed rather than an 11-speed cassette. The wheels are available with either a Shimano/SRAM or a Campagnolo freehub.

DT Swiss claim a weight of 1,255g per set without skewers. That compares to 1,385g for the standard RC28s and 1,325g for the existing disc brake version. They have a weight limit of 100kg.
The price will be €2,798 although we don’t yet have a UK price.
They’ll be available later in the year via www.hotlines-uk.com.
As I recall the power transmitted by a pulley or chain drive depends on the difference in tension between the two sides of the chain or belt....
"As a cyclist myself..."...
Well, you could get a rusty omafiets (would you be happy for it to weight slightly more than double, assuming you've a fairly heavy road bike)? Or...

Tempted to get him a sweary birthday cake like in The Thick Of It....
Didn't happen did it? They came into my shop a couple of years back and said it was "on the way", but never heard anything more.
Very parochially, I've still not forgiven Pearson's for abandoning their roots by leaving Sutton.
