Video: David Millar previews Maserati Tour de Yorkshire Ride climbs

Multiple Tour de France stage winner will line up for sportive on Sunday 3 May

Are you signed up for the Maserati Tour de Yorkshire Ride? If so, you’ll have one of Britain’s top cyclists for company, with David Millar confirming he’ll be taking part along with his father Gordon, a recent convert to road cycling. Millar also features in a video previewing the route.

As we reported last month, luxury Italian sports car marque Maserati is sponsoring the sportive whch takes place on Sunday 3 May and has signed up Millar, who retired at the end of last season, as brand ambassador.

The event takes place on the same day as Stage 3 of the Tour de Yorkshire from Wakefield to Leeds, with three route options available – 55km, 109km and 142km – plus a women-only Cycletta Ride.

In this video, Millar, controversially left out of Garmin-Sharp’s Tour de France squad last July denying him a final participation in the race where he won four stages during his career as well as wearing the yellow jersey, tackles the four toughest climbs on the route – the Côte de Chevin, Côte de Hebden Bridge, Côte de Goose Eye and Côte de Cow and Calf.

He said, “We wanted to give the riders of the Maserati Tour de Yorkshire Ride a look at the route as there are a few very hard climbs. Parts of the route were used in Stage Two of last year’s Tour de France with many parts catching out the pro-riders.”

Millar's father is a recent convert to road cycling?

Classic Dad eh? Supporting your son after his barnstorming career's over.

Still, better late than never.
