The name for this Sportive comes from WW2 when this Southern part of Kent was within range of the Axis Air Force and guns. It had a tough time so you can also expect a challenging late season ride too! The event is based from Folkestone Racecourse, just a stone’s throw from the M20 and with good facilities and with easy access to quiet roads it is an ideal starting point to explore this area which is dotted with WW2 relics. There are 3 routes to choose from, Epic 82 miles, Standard 54 miles and Short 24 miles, all configured with the late season date in mind. The route has two very distinct parts, the first section is out through the quiet, flat lanes of this area where the Short riders split at Newchurch and head north to re-join the main route at Ruckinge before a slightly more energetic section to finish with. The Epic and Standard riders carry on around the Kent coast to experience the shifting pebbles and emptiness of the Romney Marshes and the golden sands of Camber before skirting the historic Cinque Port of Rye. Now heading north to Appledore following the old Military Canal, where the Standard riders split to re-join the main route at Kenardington, the terrain becomes a bit more testing with a long climb up to Tenterdon before heading further north exploring the lanes and villages which abound in this area. Keep an eye out for Oasthouses and windmills too. Once through the village of Hamstreet all routes head north again with a steady climb up to Stone Cross before heading back to the venue where medals, refreshments and massages await all. - See more at: http://www.ukcyclingevents.co.uk/events/wiggle-hellfire-corner-sportive-...

Enjoyed the humour in your write up. Stunning paint job too. Loved the glasses will provide" "a better view in the peloton." Cheers!
Glad to see the BBC is still doing a bang-up job of alienating left and right in equal measure. Keep up the good work, Auntie.
I don't think that entirely fair. A whole new range of gearing options and an entirely new model that shares virtually nothing with the others....
I didn't realise X / Twitter still had 37 users!
You put a (not really a) hashtag on it - that automatically qualifies it as a rant.
