At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

With the warmer weather comes the opportunity to swap winter gloves for short-fingered gloves, or mitts as they're commonly referred to in cycling. These Sugoi RC100 gloves are very comfortable with minimal padding and offer an exceptionally good fit.

The palm features several small cushioned zones, located at the base of the fingers, under the thumb and the base of the palm. The padding is just enough to filter out some road vibration, but isn't too intrusive if you prefer thinly padded gloves, or gloves with no padding at all.

I found this setup provided enough comfort for rides from short blasts to four-hour rides, and even a few off-road stings on gravel tracks. if you prefer maximum comfort and don't mind sacrificing a bit of handlebar feel, you will be better served by other gloves with thicker padding.

They're a slip-on glove, that means no Velcro cuff to adjust the fit. The only downside is that they're a bit of fiddle to get on and off, but once they're on they're supremely comfortable compared to any glove with an adjustable cuff, so it's a small price to pay for the great fit once they're on your hands. There's a small section of elasticated material that ensures they expand to fit a range of wrist diameters.

Some slip-on gloves have a small tab of material between the fingers to make it easier to pull off but these lacked such a detail, so getting them off isn't something you can do in a hurry. Some will prefer the convenience of a glove with a Velcro cuff, but I'll happily take the improved fit these offer.

The back is made from a lightweight mesh fabric and it's very breathable, so no concerns with overheating. The palm has a seamless construction using a synthetic leather that stands up well to hours of use and abuse, and they go through the washing machine just fine. The stitching is all very neat and tough; they're really well made and durable.

Excellent gloves with a great fit. They look smart too with an understated design, and the durability is first class. At £25 these are very, very good for the money.

Verdict

Very comfortable gloves with minimal padding and great fit

Excellent - I am always on the lookout for unpadded or lightly-padded gloves without real leather or velcro tabs.

They're harder to find than you might think.
