BMXers vs mountain bikers vs roadies as Parkour Ride comes to London (+ video)

New multidisciplinary event debuts in October at multistorey car park in Docklands

Face Partnership, the company behind the Revolution Series and IG London Nocturne, has launched a new event called Parkour Ride that will pit riders from different disciplines against one another, with the inaugural edition taking place this October in a multi-storey car park in London’s Docklands.

Already signed up to take part is the reigning BMX world champion, Liam Phillips who has helped devise the format of the event, which takes place on Saturday, October 4 at the multi-storey car park at Tobacco Dock in Wapping.

Riders from mountain biking and road cycling will also feature in the event on a circuit that organisers say is specially designed to ensure that no one discipline gains an advantage over the others.

According to Face Partnership’s managing director, James Pope, “Parkour Ride will be a multi-discipline head-to-head elimination race. Our vision is to create an urban race where amateurs race against pros, men race against women, BMX against mountain bikes and road bikes - all on the same circuit.

“We’ve been working closely with Liam on the format and the circuit layout. His input has been invaluable as we’ve developed the concept over the past year.”

Phillips added: “Parkour Ride is a hugely innovative concept and I feel honoured to be a part of the team. From the location to the dynamics of the circuit it’ll be such a great experience for all taking part.”

“Parkour Ride will engage riders across numerous disciplines, but the course is designed in such a way to ensure the playing field is levelled, and riders will need a strategy to get that extra edge. I’ve tested the circuit in London, and it promises to be a thrilling ride.”

We're waiting to hear back from Face Partnership with details of exactly how the circuit will manage the challenge of being fair to riders from all three disciplines.

Besides racing, organisers say that the venue will also be transformed into an interactive event space.

Pope said: “We are aiming to design each level differently and work with partners to create an audiovisual experience. We’ll use music, video and other technology to enhance the event production for riders and fans.”

You can find out more information about the event on its website, where you can also pre-register for tickets.

The video didn't give much away did it? Would be nice to have some idea what the course might look like.

General question about mountain biking: do those rucksacks they all wear come with the bikes?

It makes them feel that they are really out there and need to take a full expedition survival kit to survive the remote wilderness of Leith Hill.

Nah, they actually grow out of mountain bikers' backs over the years, to provide a protective shell of flapjacks. 3

When I go mountain biking, I wear one because it's got my hydration pack in it. Because I'm basically a hobbit, my bike frame is too small to fit a bottle cage. Plus if you're riding in wet, muddy conditions, the bottle gets utterly plastered.

As my MTB friend has pointed out to me 'it's not XC without a backpack'.

The only obstacle that could level the playing field between the three discipline is a red traffic light for the fixie to whizz through and catch the others up 21

The roadie looks daft, skinny bars, no manoeuvrability or skills apart from the 'fixie' skid. Nice to see he has the appropriate facial hair though
