This surely wasn’t the first time someone on a Boris bike has been doored by a motorist, but it might be the first time one has been deliberately hit with the door of a moving police car shortly before being apprehended.
The thief, Jake Nedd, can be seen riffling through an unlocked Range Rover on Dawes Road in Fulham on June 4 before attempting to make a less-than-sharp getaway on of the capital’s Santander hire bikes.
Police officers pull alongside him in a van and the officer in the passenger seat opens the door into Nedd, causing him to veer into the kerb and fall. There’s then a brief unnerving moment where it looks like the police van might run over his head.
The London Evening Standard reports that Nedd was jailed for 28 weeks after pleading guilty to theft from a motor vehicle, going equipped for theft and taking a vehicle without consent.

How does that square with
How does that square with police saying that they can’t do this or that because of the risk of harm (even such a risk to an alleged offender , like “can’t chase that car/scooter because they might crash”)? Hey, but it’s now OK to commit an *actual* offence while trying to apprehend an alleged offender…
That was an exceedingly
That was an exceedingly irresponsible action by the copper.
Those Boris bikes are not indestructible you know.
I hope that he is sent on a bicycle maintenance course to help him understand the possible consequences of his impetuous action.
As for the scrote? Got what he deserved, riding outside of the cycle lane.
That was like something out
That was like something out of Benny Hill. Would have funnier if he’ had his head run over though.
No sympathy for thieves , it’s a pity more of them don’t ‘fall down the stairs’ as well.
Three cars (I assume legally)
Three cars (I assume legally) parked in the bike lanes. It wonder if it was worth the paint.
When police forces behave

He was using the door to gauge if he had left 1.5m safe passing distance…they forgot to bring the mat with them…
Armchair coppers criticising
Armchair coppers criticising the police the police who have to make an instant decision. They can’t win. If he’d have got away they’d have been pilloried. He was apprehended and wasn’t hurt – a job well done for the boys in blue

I’m not defending the thief, but here in the UK I think the police aren’t allowed to just beat up alleged offenders (not since the seventies): or are we now back in the end justifies the means? (yes I hit him with a brick but he was about to run away, m’lud)

It seems that dorring is like
It seems that dooring is like nuclear fission. It can be used for good or evil, and you don’t want to get any on you.
No wonder that happened what
No wonder that happened what with the chap on the bike not wearing a helmet or hi-viz and straying outside of the cycle lane.
I like the way the copper
I like the way the copper jumps out of the van and goes straight to the Boris bike to check it’s ok, picks it up then gets the thief.
