Hampshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was killed on the M3 near Fleet last night (Thursday May 5).
The collision took place at around 10.40pm between junction 4a and Fleet services. A 52-year-old cyclist from Aldershot suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Audi involved in the collision is helping police with their enquiries.
Police Sergeant Martin Mundy said: “We know that there were several vehicles travelling along that stretch of motorway at this time of night so we are keen to speak to these motorists as they may have information which can assist our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on non-emergency number 101.

There is not even a hard shoulder to protect yourself from cars. 70 to 20 Mph is a huge difference in speed and it’s just a question of time when something like that happens…Specialy at night

It’s potentially 50mph at the moment if that stretch has the road works in progress… though obviously still insane… narrow lanes too. It’s close enough with cars.
I was driving down it a few weeks ago and some idiot in the middle lane had an offside rear tyre flat… his car kept on swerving towards the other lane but he didn’t make any attempt to stop at all.. Carried on at 50mph and didn’t even pull off at the first exit that appeared.

I think that we all already know that the only roads that were specifically built for motor vehicles are the motorways, and that unlike EVERY OTHER ROAD (where the car drivers treat them as their own and hate sharing with cyclists), motorways really do belong to the cars and cycling along them is prohibited.
But frequently there is more to a story/situation than “ha -stupid cyclist!” allows.
