Peter Sagan’s first mountain bike race for seven years has ended in something of an anticlimax. Despite his famed bike handling skills, the Slovak crashed during the off-road race in Graz, Austria, damaging his bike in the process. The Slovak Spectator reports that he suffered minor injuries and was reduced to walking to the finish line.
Announcing his return to a discipline in which he was junior world champion in 2008, Sagan said: “It’s going to be good fun returning to my roots, racing mountain bikes again and I look forward to seeing what shape I will be in at those races.”
He doesn’t give the impression of having hugely enjoyed the experience from what we see in the video below.
Sagan is to compete in another mountain bike race in the Czech town of Teplice on April 30 before heading to the United States for next month’s Tour of California.

Golly. He doesn’t look his usual bubbly and spritely self in that video. Hopefully he’ll look more awesome in the Specialised promotional video that surely must be coming…

Didn’t look himself at all did he? Even before the bike seemed to be knackered. Wonder what happened?
