Bardet has said his only goal now is the KOM jersey. I just used my last sub, De Gendt out for Bardet. More points in the mountains the on the final stage methinks. Should have done it yesterday.

To have picked Bardet yesterday (a few did) was an excellent gamble.  I had budgeted an extra transfer, but ended up not using it as I could not see where to use it.  I was looking at Bardet, Quintana, Wellens and Porte, but it just seemed a gamble.  It seems clearer today.

Obviously Quintana would have been alright too!

Gone all in GC for today

Buchmann, Uran, Irviti in for Wellens, Meurisse and Simon Yates.

    BUCHMANN
    BERNAL
    PINOT
    KRUIJSWIJK
    LANDA
    URAN
    IRVITI
    PORTE

I was tempted to go for Bardet over Uran but decided to play safe.

I believe it will be a GC rider that wins, but I have got Bardet.  He must go for the big KoM points in the break.

Bardet punt went well….but what about my other breakaway rider,Simon Yates?

I missed the crucial bit…for a while it looked like Simon was trying to get on a break, but then I went out and came home to see Adam in the break instead…what happened?…wasn’t mistaken identity again early on was it..or did Simon just make a balls of it?

Simon will have another go this weekend. They might be GC days though.

    MIS may get another stage

MIS may get another stage this weekend with Simon Yates.  Really have rescued their tour without a GC contender.

Picking which rider will win from the break is too big a lottery today so gone with safe transfers.

Viviani, Groenewegen & Ewan out – Bernal, Pinot & Kruijswijk in.

    SAGAN
    BERNAL
    PINOT
    KRUIJSWIJK
    COLBRELLI
    MEURISSE
    WELLENS
    PORTE

With a bot of luck, Meurisse, Sagan and Colbrelli to be in the break.

Hopefully Trentin doesn’t do anything. frown

I went Trentin, I hope Matthews doesn’t do anything!

Honestly, it is a gamblers world so I am GC plus Sagan and Colbrelli with one gamble in Trentin.  MIS have really embraced stage hunting since GC hopes faded.

Five in the break. Being kept on a short lead.  Unless anything unusal happens, looks like a sprint.

There will be crosswind later but maybe not strong enough to have an impact.

Interesting to see Viviani is still going for points at the intermediate sprint, I didn’t expcet that.

Neither did I, one of the reasons I didn’t pick him.

Rumours flying around that QS are not going to help chase today, leaving all the work to Jumbo & Lotto. A few tipsters backing the break.

I’m hoping it ends in a sprint –

    SAGAN
    VIVIANI
    GROENEWEGEN
    EWAN
    COLBRELLI
    MEURISSE
    WELLENS
    PORTE

The break is definitely a possibility.

I don’t see DQS chasing.  I didn’t pick Viviani today (I have Ewan, Groenewegen, Sagan and Colbrelli) to save a transfer, but he has worked so hard in recent days that it is hard to see him beating others who have been able to take it a little easier on those tough mountain stages.

Lotto will chase. Jumbo and Bora have GC contenders too.  Will Bahrain do any work?  Can’t see Colbrelli winning though.  Sunweb, same issue whether Matthews or Bol sprints.

I want a sprint too, though I have kept two GC riders for their points and to save transfers for later in the week (Bernal and Pinot).

I have one transfer left….. indecision

How did I bollocks up the last week so badly?

Wow, that is going to be tough.

I think the rankings can change quite alot from here depending on how many transfers we have held back.

I have 13 and even then I would like a few more and regret wasting some others.

Sacrificed Bernal today, so all you betting guys should be getting on him to win today.

Kept Bernal, but dropped Alaphilippe. Thought he would crack and was too expensive to gamble on. At least I brought Pinot in.

Expecting teams could be quite different today.

I was torn last night with guessing who would be in the break – I picked Benoot which may work.

Putting in some GC points – Bernal, Ala and Thomas

Kept Colbrelli as the intermediate sprint was in play

and finally guessing who would be a good TT pick too (probably Thomas).

It might be a stage where you can go up or down the rankings quite a bit.

Decided against putting Wellens back in, that may cost me as a gets maximum points on the first two climbs.

Didn’t see the Dennis abandon coming.

I got Benoot too but not a lot more. Briefly thought about S Yates and quickly dismissed the thought as the rant of a madman. Bringing Thomas and WVA in today to add to my GC orientated team, I now have 3 x 3 pointers though which seems excessive. only 14 transfers left which seems too few as will probably need at least 9 for the sprint stages. ho hum I think I’ve been here before.

On the positive side I am leading the Purist competition. I am only pointing this out as my team is mostly made up of sprinters and I expect to go backwards rapidly from here.

France and Spain From Sunday, at least I will be on my bike in the Pyrenees and not just watching it.

Have a grear summer everyone catch you all for the Vuelta.

    Skiddley.

17 transfers left after today and 3 x 3 pointer too.

This weekend might tell us how many sprinters will be left for next week.  Last year many missed the timecuts in the mountains, particularly on short ones like Saturday.  If it all kicks off GCwise at some point many of them will find it tough.

Had a chainstay repaired professionally a few montbs ago. Wasn’t expensive and you can’t tell now.

Originally told the wife it had ended the bike’s life and bought another. The repaired one is now permanently in the pain cave.

    How many transfers for a
How many transfers for a single summit finish?

    Key question for tomorrow.

My race is going OK, except got the TTT which didn’t go well. Doubled down on MIS which turned out to be a mistake.
