To play devil’s advocate – I
To play devil’s advocate – I suspect that the type of motor is relevant in one limited sense – that it is perceived as “a new menace” and therefore considered newsworthy. Compare e.g. prevalence of news items on car battery fires vs engine fires, or XL Bully incidents versus Yorkshire Terrier bites.
The easy availability of electrically propelled bikes (and scooters) and conversion kits and their near silence perhaps means that there is a wider group of people who will unthinkingly ride them around pedestrianised areas than would choose do so on an unlicensed loud 2 stroke scrambler (though when I was growing up, there were plenty of them menacing people in local parks). I know that legally it’s no different, but I think in the general public consciousness (to the extent that is a thing) it makes it a “new technology” issue rather than an “every era has wrong-uns” issue.

When they go to the trouble
When they go to the trouble of signing that there’s no access for pedestrians and cyclists you know it’s serious! The last time I encountered a road closure (not so signed) I thought I’d chance it as they are usually passable on bike. Ended up with some very muddy feet from scrambling round the comprehensively fenced off roadworks. Not something to do with a LEJOG loaded bike!

I do have a curved carbon fork from 10 yrs ago, but for rim brakes.

If these are easily disproved
If these are easily disproved as fake, makes you wonder whether it’s low-quality work on behalf of Reform or smear work by their opponents.

This is great. But what I’m really looking for is a sticker to put on my top-tube to tell me when to eat and drink during a ride.

Haven’t gone as big as a bike
Haven’t gone as big as a bike yet, but I’ve used Parcelforce for some bulky ebaying recently (kids’ buggies, cots etc). Was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable a 48hr door to door service was.

Pretty sure the Carradice
Pretty sure the Carradice Odyssey didn’t exist when I got my Wizard Works Shazam – they had the traditional cotton duck bags or the Super-C. Wizard Works is made in London (no, probably not the fabric – but not sure that’s different for Carradice). And the quick release bracket is an optional extra for either Carradice or Wizard Works.

And which looks very like the bag produced by indy bag manufacturer Wizard Works…

I have a Shazam mini and love wizard works, but it’s a bit chicken and egg – the Shazam does look quite a lot like the bags Carradice have been making for ages – their innovation was arguably just using more modern fabrics.
