Hate what bad weather does to

Hate what bad weather does to my bike. Maintenance seems to take more time than actual riding and getting the bike dry after a wash is difficult. Can’t help but worry about bearings, brakes and drivetrains when everything is covered in wet grit

You need a specific tool to
You need a specific tool to check that the rotor is tight. Its the same tool used to remove/tighten a Shimano cassette. If you don’t have one then if you have a bike shop handy its a 5 minute job for them, or a 2 minute job if you take them just the wheel. Good luck and hope you get to the bottom of it.

If the disc is moving under

If the disc is moving under braking force, then either its not tight on the hub, or one of the pistons in the caliper is sticking.

If you hold the brake on tight and rock the bike back and forth, is there any knocking? If there is, can you put a finger on the disc and a finger on a frame part and feel if there is any relative movement?

If there is no movement from the disc relative to the frame, then if you take the caliper off and press the pads apart with a suitable tool (I find clean tyre levers work well) and then gently squeeze the brake lever, do the pistons and pads move out smoothly and equally, or does one stick?

Don’t allow them to come out too far and don’t squeeze so much that the pads meet – else you won’t be able to get the pistons back in without removing the pads.

    Rear wheels don’t spin as

Rear wheels don’t spin as well as front wheels due to the extra drag from the freehub – in my experience anyway.

    Not sure what your position

Not sure what your position is at the moment, but it might be worth looking at your saddle fore/aft position. Moving the saddle forward so that you are further forward and in effect rotated around the bb, might help as your upper body will be further forward and lower.

Mine are quite a bit higher

Mine are quite a bit higher than yours and I just put a couple of cable ties round them. Still looks a mess but a bit less of a mess.

    Check the derailleur
Check the derailleur adjustment. I have had similar and it was the chain slightly catching the next sprocket on the cassette. Most likely needs slightly more tension on the cable.

I had a Tiagra shifter go

I had a Tiagra shifter go mushy – imprecise shifts and missed shifts. Peeled back the hoods and flooded it with various oils and lubricants – GT85 seemed particularly effective. It improved the shifting back to normal. I then smeared grease wherever I could get to without stripping it. Can’t confirm the longevity of the ‘fix’ as I upgraded shifters and derailleurs soon after.

Might be worth a try before spending though.

Cant see any reason not to wear a helmet,  My story is i always told my kids to wear a helmet, they would moan, they would whine. Then one day i have to go into work for a meeting on my day off. I jump on my bike (BMX) and off i cycle, then whoops i’ve forgotton to put my helmet on. well i think to myself i’ll be ok.i ride slower, miss the drains and pot holes,no jumping off the kerbs! So i get to a staggered crossroads and im waiting at the junction. Then bang! a car on the opposite junction hit me because he cut over to my side of the road. i was lucky, the back of my head did not hit the road,Saved by the ruck sack on had on my back. The one time i never wore my helmet!

Great anecdote that says more about risk compensation than helmet safety.

When I rode motorbikes I called my leathers my ‘suit of invincibility’. I definitely rode differently when I wasn’t wearing them!

I have DT Swiss wheels on my MTB and the 11 speed freehub body also got chewed by the cassette. Not sure how bad your damage is, but I cleaned up mine as best I could with a file and made sure the cassette was tight and haven’t had any further issues.

Replacement was about £35 eg: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/hub-spares/dt-swiss-3pawl-freehub-body-aluminium-shimano-11speed-road/

That is an awful attitude. I’d be mentioning it to Giant.

Any half decent bike shop should be able to swap out wheel bearings in half hour. Only complication might be if it’s the free hub in which case they might need to replace it.

    Good luck getting it sorted.

    I couldn’t find an n-30 10

I couldn’t find an n-30 10 speed cassette in Tiagra or 105 series and wasn’t sure my derailleur could accomodate a 32. Ended up going 12-30 Ultegra. Not the cheapest option 🙁

And another vote for KMC chains 🙂
