The only real way of knowing
The only real way of knowing is to do it! Honestly I think you’ll be fine riding in the bunch is far easier than solo and not just for the efficiency aspect but mental as well which is generally what defeats people anyway (me included). B rides are normally no drop as well so if you are a bit slow I’m sure they won’t leave you and if you feel the pace is a little strong shout out. From 70 it’s only a small step up to that first century.pablo
What’s the wait on the Ribble
What’s the wait on the Ribble and the canyon? Personally I’d probably go Ribble I think they are smashing it at the moment and every time I’ve looked at a canyon which are fantastic bikes the wait has been months. A good AL frame is great and generally you get a better spec of components compared to a Carbon bike I would and do ride an AL bike for loads of my ridding and have no issues but I also have the same bike in carbon and the ride is better. The Aluminium frame is less compliant at the back so when the road gets rough you feel it more which can slow you down slightly although honestly I could do the same ride back to back and probably get exactly the same average speed. I’ve also done my longest ride on the AL bike at 140 miles and didnt think much of it. Carbon generally is better but Aluminium can be brilliant as well.pablo
Canyon tend to be pretty good
Canyon tend to be pretty good i’ve heard of a few frames being replaced out of warranty for cracks and this is well inside warranty and shouldn’t really happen. Where are you based? They have a UK service centre in Leatherhead from what i’ve heard if you have to send the bike in it can take a while but if you take it in they agree to the issue and then order the bits in but you can keep riding it until they are ready to do the swap. Not sure how they are handling things at the moment with Covid.

Hill repeats is your best
Hill repeats is your best option but over a longer distance with less gradient. 15% for the vast majority over that distance would just be happy to make it.pablo
Never had any issues with any
Never had any issues with any Shimano 11 speed brakes 105 or ultegra. 10 speed ultegra was a bit pap bit still pretty good.pablo
Ha Had a bit of a result! I
Ha Had a bit of a result! I club friend of mine had a dead derailleur with a very frozen motor and said i could have it so i’ve taken my motor, plates, jockey wheels, and swapped them in and it works perfectly now! Still can’t see where the old one was twisted. I thought i would post this just incase anyone is trying to do similar in the future.

The hanger is new although it
The hanger is new although it doesn’t guarantee it’s straight. I used the ghetto method of using a straight edge against the hanger and measuring to 4 points around the wheel rim. I even swapped in a spare non di2 derailleur to see what it looked like and it was vertical and not twisted.I wasn’t aware R8000 di2 were compatible I guess this is why you can’t get 6800 looks like that’s my only route.
Annoyingly a fellow club mate had a 6800 version with a knackered motor it ashame they aren’t serviceable.pablo
Trainerroad works with Garmin
Trainerroad works with Garmin workouts from memory and the plans can be adapted for outside riding automaticallypablo
I looked into this recently
I looked into this recently because at this time of year with hayfever I get what I think is sports induced asthma as it’s so hard to prove haven’t seen a doctor as I’m not a pro and am certainly not applying for a TUE. When I get to around my max heart rate I really struggle and can’t sustain for more than a few seconds because my chest tightens any other time of year I’m fine.
The other thing I think related to a relative high heart rate is fatigue if I do a ride at 160 average Vs 150 funnily enough I’m shagged for the rest of the day for very little gain in speed do that day after day and something’s got to give. My conclusion is I’m try to hard for my relative fitness.
You can lower your heart rate for the same effort but it takes time (months) and means riding to a much lower heart rate and hence much slower but the body will adapt and the speed will come back.
I did a fun experiment last week for one of my common routes (40 miles) I checked my last average heart rate set that as my max heart rate (@157 start soft pedaling basically) and then set my average target as 147 and stick to it. My average speed was lower but only .3mph and I felt amazing after the ride far less fatigued. It was fun because you had the mental capacity to think about where you could gain free speed eg brake later, more aero etc. I want to do it again because I can gain even more.
I don’t want to ride like this for the rest of the summer but will mix it in for 1 or 2 rides a week and then really work on it over the off season. I guess this is essentially traditional base trainingpablo
Will give it a go as the
Will give it a go as the chain is 4000 miles old and hasn’t had the best life gone are the days when i can be bothered getting a tooth brush between the links to remove winter cack. Will gain a few watts as we 😉

I have last gen di2 and it is
I have last gen di2 and it is without doubt great compared to similar generation Ultegra purely for maintainance and the lack of chain rub because the front derailleur parks out the way when not needed. I now also have plain Ultegra (current gen) and the front derailleur is amazing and easy to setup and shift maintanances wise I have tightened the barrel adjusters once in 3000 miles.I had a similar conversation with my bro in law who realy wants di2 and I surprised myself by saying not to bother as they are very close now I don’t feel I’ve lost out. If I was you I’d spend the £400 on something that would make you faster (probably not relevent for your use) also the ownership cost can be high I’ve broken the front derailleur and now the rear derailleur all £100+ each.
If it’s a scratch you want to itch and you don’t need the money I’d go for it but on road I’d have discs above it everydayAugust 23, 2019 at 2:49 pm in reply to: October half term cycling holiday destination recommendation please #948857pablo
Canaries is the obvious
Canaries is the obvious answer that time of year never been to Lanzarote as the potential winds put me off when we first choose where to go but obviously the riding is good.
I’ve ridden Grand Caneria 4 times now and love it. We always hire our bikes from Free Motion not the cheapest but the bikes are all maintained and changed every year as they also deal in Cannondale and a few other brands. They have a few sites on the Island and also on some of the other Islands. First year we stayed in the hotel above their main shop just by chance and it was a great hotel.
Have to say i prefer it to Mallorca but that might be because we stayed about 10 miles from anything worth riding. In GC i can think of a few routes where your basically climbing from when you leave the hotel so that may sway it for me.

Interesting thread this. I
Interesting thread this. I’ve not actually run into anyone with an e road bike what are they actually like?
For those with physical issues seems a great way of covering distance but are they much use to a relatively fast rider as they are limited to 17.5mph. I suppose the hills is where you’d make big gains. The only advantage perceivably carbon would have over alu is comfort and that certainly isn’t worth the extra £. My primary bike at the moment is a Caad and it is really comfortable even over 100+ miles I’m a convert back to Alu. I’ve managed to kill my Evo which is basically the same bike I miss it but not £1k much.

Oh my! don’t know much about Bianchi range other than the history. Looks like I might need to do some research I work with a guy who’s a fanatic and has about 10 of them. Nice find.
