I’ve even seen someone pitch their own gazebo, and that was at a Youth A race.If you want to look like a pro, take a track pump, get yourself a good place before the race, like next to a wall or something, and fiddle with your tyre pressure for a while, cursing loudly under your breath, and when people walk past, just point at your valve and say “Rolling resistance!”
Aside from making you look as much as a seasoned racer as it will, it will put your mind at rest.
Make sure to take food and water, but maybe not on the bike, just before and after.
😀 LOL at gazebos and rollers at a youth race. If I did that it would force me to the win for fear of looking like an absolute spanner otherwise!

Hmm. Not sure how much of that is cash, but it could easily be a good set of wheels or something, or as Gav says, a nice little two-wheeled escape to the sun (missus permitting).Heck, you could even buy a cheap mountain bike to hit the trails occasionally.
Buy the spesh.

I’d join a club first, since the key isn’t just outright fitness, it’s being able to ride safely in a group. This can be difficult at first, but better learnt in a friendly group than within a bunch of strangers who won’t hesitate to use their elbows in jockeying for position.notfastenough
Second the above comment.
Second the above comment. Also, see if you can go out for a ride or two with each one to see if you prefer one in particular.notfastenough

Thanks for posting SD.
Well
Thanks for posting SD.Well it was the first one I suppose. As per the other thread, it would be nice if Canyon could have exhibited – that could have settled the debate!

I drooled over that review as much as the next guy Dave, believe me! I’m merely saying that not everyone will be comfortable with parting with that much cash for something that, in the end, just might not suit him.Maybe by the time I’m looking for my next bike there will be a test ride facility.

I’m not debating the quality or anything, merely that I wouldn’t blame him for being a bit wary of spending circa £3k on something he’s not seen! Liking/loving it is subjective. If he could check one out beforehand, I agree that he could be onto a winner.

1. Given that you already own a spesh, will you subsequently regret not using your nice little carte blanche blessing from your missus to buy something more exotic?2. Do the odd-looking forks/stays on the Pino do your head in, or do you like them?
Spesh in carbon black/red looks nice.
Let’s face it, neither of them is going to be a lemon!
Are you going to post something telling us mere mortals about the road cycling show then?! 😀

don’t think I’ve ever seen a negative report for Shimano groupset stuff, TBH. At the end of the day it’s just evolutionary – (unless you go Di2) there’s nothing revolutionary about them, 2012 mechanical Ultegra will be very well sorted.Cannondale Synapse Ultegra!

Specialized All-Condition
Specialized All-Condition Training tyre seem very good from my couple of rides on them, and Road.cc gave them an excellent review – something about if you could only have one pair of tyres, needing to be fast, durable, puncture-resistant, then these are it, or words to that effect.notfastenough

What’s your budget? I’d be inclined to book a day off work, make a couple of calls to local bike shops and set up a raft of test rides. Comparisons of steel, Ti, carbon, high end Alu for a start.notfastenough
I suspect some incompetence
I suspect some incompetence involved here, consisting of a workshop lad who didn’t really know how to work with the hub gears. Call it an hour of faffing about, yeah, £27.50. -
