Good on you for doing this.
Good on you for doing this. I’m part of a club that was formed a few years ago out of a group of lads that just liked riding bikes. We’ve got BC affiliation, but it’s a very small minority of us who race.I found them because I googled around for a small club without political agendas, annual general meetings and the like. The unique selling point of ours is that we ride out earlier (8am) than others, so we tend to attract people who have kids etc and can’t simply block out most of the daylight hours every Sunday for riding.
Get yourself some jerseys, and encourage everyone to behave and ride responsibly while wearing them. Try and get your LBS to subsidise them with their name on them, and get a couple of posters put up in the shop.
Your website is decent, and you sound like a friendly lot (I read the bit about doing away with the excuses for not doing sportives). Maybe get some pictures up which show that you are in fact human and not all 9-stone racing snakes with intimidating calf muscles and aero-shaped heads.
Get a facebook page, link up with all the members, post some stuff and get a few likes. Link to a club page on Strava and show people where you’ve been. The members will come, I’m sure.
Good luck.

And that’s the thing about high-vis – if the berk doesn’t look, no amount of dayglo is going to save anyone.Glad you’re ok and that you saw it in time to take appropriate action.

You know this site gave the AL Di2 their bike of the year award, right?I think you’ll be fine. That said, if my current project (via my LBS) doesn’t get off the ground and I look to Canyon instead, I’ll be going for the Carbon Ultimate CF 8.0 with mech Ultegra and Ksyrium Elites.

I’m paying £110 for a 2-hour session, booked in for Friday. Nowhere near London, but I think you’re spoilt for choice down there to be honest. Condor, Sigma Sport, I think Mosquito as well.notfastenough
That silence you hear is
That silence you hear is road.cc users (virtually) staring at each other across the bar and shrugging their shoulders…!Seriously though, I don’t know London so I suspect someone will be along to recommend one shortly. In your position, I think I’d just pick the bike I wanted (Boardmans are generally very good bikes) then take it to a local mechanic and pay a few quid for it to be checked over.

Different schools of thought.
Different schools of thought. No doubt there are steel/titanium fans who think that carbon is spelt m-a-j-o-r f-a-i-l-u-r-e, but I’ve had no problems with my generic chinese carbon frame. I look after it, but it’s also had two winter’s worth of salt, a little crash when slipping on diesel and another little crash when the guy to my left couldn’t unclip, fell onto another lad, who fell onto me and I couldn’t hold the weight (dominoes!).Cubes are decent bikes. You’ll be fine.

Thanks for the replies –
Thanks for the replies – you’re right I don’t need lighter faster wheels, but then I don’t *need* a bike at all. I ride as much as my time/resources/domestic situation allows, and I’m looking to treat myself to something which will fit me better and have the range of adjustment necessary to eliminate my aches/pains. My question was more about how much of a gap there is in quality/weight/stiffness/handling between the obvious difference across the two bikes, as well as mentioning the elephant in the room of LBS vs online. I actually use a one-man-band mechanic business (a clubmate) for servicing, but still…That said, the Trek’s the better looker – the midnight blue/white paint job is the best outside of the project one stuff IMHO.
In the end, if the Bont wheels are as good as the LBS (and Lost Faith…) suggest, then the lifetime frame warranty and LBS service on the Trek are definitely good to have.

Genius. 😀

Your mate should just sod it
Your mate should just sod it and ride the course himself. I like the whole support/group riding thing, but some of the organisers just seem to be out for the cash.notfastenough
Glad it’s not just me, PJ.
Glad it’s not just me, PJ. I’ve got three already.Phototext – when you say that this has happened as you are getting older – has your position changed on the bike? Are you more upright?
Perhaps your tallywhacker might thank you for trying a Brooks? Admittedly they need to be broken in.
