Don’t know about London, but I paid £110 at Pedal Precision in Manchester. £235 definitely sounds steep.

Ok, so the shoes are probably the R087, possibly matched with SPD-SL pedals. Nothing wrong with that, although the fit of them didn’t suit my feet.

A bike fitting is a good idea, although I don’t know of any down south. (Perhaps a Road.cc directory with reviews/comments would be a good idea?) Be prepared to find that the cost is offset against the price of the bikes on offer, so your shortlist will get longer!

Somewhere like Sigma Sport will probably be a good bet.

Hmm, I know what you mean. Even I could measure you up, but it wouldn’t count as a bike fit. However (and obviously I don’t know how fit/experienced you are), since your body changes when you ride more, it’s probably not such a bad thing to get a few months riding in first anyway to reveal any aches/pains etc.

What pedals/shoes are they throwing in?

Looking at getting this for the month as well. However, quick question – the on-demand/catch-up feature mentions the “best” programmes of the week – how likely is the Giro to be on there? The actual broadcast times of the highlights won’t be convenient for me.

I don’t have one, but have only heard good things about them. You going to their place in Derby? IIRC that offer comes with a bike fitting too, right? I’d take it. I’d only buy from Canyon (or any other online-only brand) if I knew not just what bike I wanted, but exactly the riding position I wanted to achieve etc.

At least you weren’t the chap saw in the hail yesterday. Nice white castelli gilet – with no sleeves on his jersey, but with a pair of armwarmers. Exposed shoulders for the Liza Minelli look!

Weirdly, I’ve noticed the ‘exclusive’ miserable-looking lot don’t acknowledge our smart-looking club run in matching kit either. Maybe it’s the expression that defines them rather than the kit!

Glad you’re enjoying the Mekk, I checked out the Focus Cayo and that definitely seemed a good bike.

Nothing wrong with Cubes, the Agree for example is a good bike.

London-wise, you should be within reasonable distance of Sigma Sport, who are highly regarded.

If you’re interested in learning more yourself (in order to better understand the implications of the bike fitting information you receive), you could do a lot worse than reading this:

    http://www.cervelo.com/en/engineering/thinking-and-processes/geometry-and-fit.html

Once you understand it, and you’ve got info to show what measurements you need, you can shop around by looking at the geometry charts on bike websites and narrowing down which ones are worth a look. Then you look for local stockists of those brands, assess which ones are helpful, and you’ll be well on your way.

Or, if that just sounds geeky, just get the bike fit, let them recommend a bike, then pick the fastest-looking colour! 😀 There aren’t many bad bikes at that price anyway.

The question is, why does Kimmage feel the need to ask questions almost exclusively of Sky and Wiggo? Why not Astana? Katusha? Blanco? Saxo? Movistar? IAM? Radioshack? A hell of a lot more proven doping in these teams. As was mentioned above, the sight of Contador, Valverde and Rodriguez yo-yo-ing up the Vuelta climbs last year, leaving the strongest Tour climber in their dust, was… not normal. There you go, a little innuendo to end on.

This, this, and thrice this. I’d pay good money to see Froome’s SRM files from the Vuelta – I don’t buy that he was tired, he looked good and I reckon he was a good baseline for top-end clean riding in the Vuelta.

As for Brailsford, I think the worst you can say about him is that he’s (or maybe his management team) sometimes a bit naive. The way in which relationships were handled with the likes of Leinders (and the ultimatum that saw several leave) is one example.

Ultimately, Kimmage is poison to the teams; either they let him on the bus for him to poke his nose in everywhere, generally making a nuisance of himself and upsetting people’s single-minded focus (which is not good if you base your whole strategy on lots of tiny marginal gains) or you don’t let him on, and he casts aspersions left right and centre. Sky’s remit is to “Win clean”, not to “ride clean” – that means that while doping is a no-go, they won’t put an anti-doping PR exercise above their chances of victory.

It’s a BS item alright, but maybe not quite in the way you were thinking! I’d have a major issue with mandatory hi-vis. Perhaps they have arranged for you only to share the road with yellow cars.

I kind of agree, but as my mate (a good climber) said, there are elite class racers all over the good climbs, so normal club-standard riders are left to contest the random little ones.

The proliferation of duplicates and near-duplicates is stupid though, and could indeed do with a cull.

I found Sidi to be very narrow though. Specialized, while they don’t have the brand cachet of Sidi (or indeed general loveliness!), are wider. My 44s are very good, but as I only bought a lower-level pair, not that stiff (5.0). Go a little upmarket in their range and you may find what you’re after.
