To be fair, lightweight rain jackets are known as boil-in-the-bag for a reason. The Aldi one might be more susceptible to over-heating – I don’t know.

Asoss is very well-regarded, although when in that shop all I could think (as much about the bikes as anything else) was “lovely, but would I really pay that much for that spec?”.

Nope, antidote. See the thread “Antidote”, posted by Nostromo.

Indeed it is also an anedote, but something positive intended as an antidote to all the negative crazy stuff that gets (rightfully) posted in the news section; hit-and-run drivers, cyclists killed etc.

    @Speshrider, it would be
@Speshrider, it would be useful to know what your foot positioning is like. Sit on a work surface (one that’s too high for your feet to touch the ground) without shoes on, relax completely, then have a look at how your feet (specifically the forefoot) hang. A sizeable proportion of people have the outstep of the foot hanging a little lower than the instep. This is called varus tilt (opposite direction is called valgus tilt) and is why you can buy all the Body Geometry insoles and wedges that Specialized do.

    http://www.bikefit.com/Images/images/WhyWedge/ForefootVarus.JPG

However, Specialized also build 1.5mm of varus tilt into the Body Geometry shoes anyway, so if for example your feet were completely level laterally, then perhaps Spesh would not be the best choice, since you would need a pair of valgus wedges just to cancel out the basic tilt in the shoe itself.

Is there someone in the shop that knows about bike fitting? That could massively help in minimising the risk of buying the wrong kit to start with.

Anyway, there’s a forum. We could always make a concerted effort to redress the happiness balance by using that.

Do you ever get saddle sores?
Do you ever get saddle sores? Pain anywhere? Shoulder or neck tension? Aches/pains after long rides?

If no to all of the above, then maybe a bike fit can’t help you. Even if you’re just ‘reasonably’ happy, you probably have the fit sufficiently close that you won’t buy the wrong size frame, which is the key thing.

PS – For those too busy to understand, this comment and my other one, aren’t really serious.

PPS – I also understand that the tyres and wife are the wrong way round the second comment, this is intentional and was to add to the humour you have utterly drained from it all.

At least you had the good grace to top it up again.

Are his tyres better looking than his wife?

If you’re not sure, I suspect your sarcasm detector may need a servicing. The needle on mine was off the scale.

I’m really not keen on the whole cyclists=good, drivers=bad rhetoric that is sometimes spouted on here. HOWEVER, it doesn’t seem that the OP is guilty of this? Are you reading some of the comments in the Tweeting driver article instead?

    This is one of those
😀 This is one of those situation where you genuinely won’t be able to bridge the gap to his train of thought – kinda like the whole ‘arming teachers’ thing in America. All you can really do is point out that his view (cyclists should pull over) is opinion, whereas the cyclists view (they didn’t have to) is fact, and backed up by law. You could add something about ‘most cyclists’ using helmet-cams (blatant lie, but white in nature) to try and deter him from pulling such a manoeuvre in future.

Displeased – who would have thought, indeed?! :O
