Liking the micro-scooter – what I also find amusing is that the comments on the linked page discuss the odd reactions from others, staring at you etc. Sounds exactly like tge looks you got for riding in lycra 20-25 years ago!

How about the Rohan suit with some over trousers? I tend to think that non-matching jacket and trousers only works for casual ie with jeans.

I have a 2013 4.5, and while I don’t race, I can confirm that it feels stiff when pushing on.

That said, the Cervelo R3 105 build is around the same price (as is the S2, actually) and current 105 is probably quite different to the 4-yr old stuff.

If it helps, here my write-up of all the bikes I tried around that price range:

Ok, I did start when I was 16, and kept it up for a little while. I will also start this post by excusing myself in advance for perhaps being a little crude. That said:

I did it because I was under an accredited coach that insisted on it from all of his riders. Also, roubaix tights are miles comfier without dragging hairs ‘against the grain’ and causing them to poke through for the ‘furry lycra’ look. Not to mention the mess that hair will make if you crash and pick up some road rash.

Unless you have rather more prowess than I did at 16, you have yet to undress in front of a young lady. Believe me, the reaction you’ll get to shaved legs will mean that you will only do this for someone you REALLY like, and trust. This may be an upside or a downside, depending on your view.

Don’t shave all the way up your legs, because when it starts to grow back on the inner thighs, (there’s no easy way to say this) – the stubble is like sandpaper on your balls for a couple of days.

If buying razor blades is a problem, just buy some veet cream and get in the shower with it.

For what it’s worth, I no longer bother.

    Hmm this is an interesting
Hmm this is an interesting one. Pity it wasn’t last year when I:

    Went mountain biking
    Commuted on my bike
    Bought a second bike
    Rode a fixie
    Rode on a velodrome
    Sucessfully replaced handlebar tape!
    Rode a century

    etc etc

Fair point Jo about helping others as well.

Sod it, I’m in. No idea what I’m going to do though…

Very much doubt the kit that Froomey is wearing in the twitter picture will be available to buy.

There will be replicas, there always is! You can already get the mesh undergarments.

Not so sure about this one, given that it’s the skinsuit that Chris is wearing in the pic.

It did occur to me that Sky may have found a way to put off fans from wearing pro kit… I sure wouldn’t wear it.

    The new Kinesis Aithein
The new Kinesis Aithein sounds tailor-made for you. Alloy crit racer, don’t be fooled by the material though, a clubmate has built it up using full ultegra (so not exotic super-light kit or anything), the bike weighs 6.9kgs, and the frameset only costs £650!

£100 which is burning a hole
£100 which is burning a hole in my pocket. Will top it up to result in one of:

Spesh body geometry shoes- to supplement existing pair
    Rapha Cross jersey
A soft shell jacket, but haven’t seen a really nice one for this kind of cash
Or even a winter frame, but the head tube on the Ribble seems stupidly short

A club member has the SP Race
A club member has the SP Race with Ultegra and loves it. He upgraded the wheels to Mavic Cosmic Carbones and it absolutely flies. My only objection is that the one he bought has a very cool retro colour scheme (remember the old Raleigh stripes?), but the more recent ones could be any brand you like from an aesthetics point of view.

They are owned by a foreign (Dutch?) parent company now. If you value British, there are PLENTY of other brands you could choose. Most manufacture in the Far East, but they are throroughly British brands… oh, and some of the paint jobs are outstanding.

    Genesis
    Kinesis
    Condor
    Pearson
    etc etc

What Colin said. When I started out, I tried to get all my bibs, jerseys etc in the sale – which meant that all my clobber was rubbish.
Read reviews, identify what it is you want out of your gear, spend the right amount of cash and spend it once. It only took me 4 years to work that one out….

Amen. I’ve got so much stuff that I don’t wear due to this.

That said, starting commuting by bike has put the less brilliant stuff back to use. I’m not wearing Rapha or club kit just to get to work.

A nice little (large?) group doing the same, all at the same time, would be amusing.

Oh, and I’d happily say it to his face. This strikes me as the same sort of mentality that results in the “I’ll show him, the skinny bloke in lycra” [makes punishment pass] problem. He suggests William Black is hiding behind a keyboard, but it’s ok for idiots to hide behind a steering wheel and endanger others.

    Ridiculously difficult to
Ridiculously difficult to stay calm in that situation isn’t it? The adrenalin just rockets. Someone pulled out on me, only to then stop at the roundabout just 100 yards later. I pulled up alongside and shouted “I am here, you know!” as she wound the window down, only to find her apologising profusely for making a mistake. I quickly calmed down then and we parted on better terms.
