I think your routine and prep
I think your routine and prep is key here – 30 minutes at each end of the journey needs to shrink a bit, and as you get quicker you’ll be able to cover the 9.5 miles more quickly. If your cycling kit (plus change of clothes, towel etc) is ready to go, you could probably fall out of bed at 5:45, out the door before 6, get there by 6:45, shower and change in 15 minutes.

Also, how much of the driven portion is spent in traffic? You may find that the whole journey on the bike is quicker than by car.

    “She’s not big, she’s quite
“She’s not big, she’s quite fit actually” That’s brilliant! I only got into ebay recently, but did have one guy kick off because the speaker stands he bought had been stood in the loft and needed a good cleaning. (He picked them up in person, so he did see them!)

I’m about to auction a Rapha softshell jacket, be interesting to see how much that goes for.

I like Speedplay (and don’t seem to have the high-maintenance thing that others report), but then I have old knee issues which the speedplays are good at accommodating. I had a chat with Jon-Allan Butterworth (paralympic sprinter who is involved with a new LBS near me) and he said that Speedplays worked for him when he was coming back from a knee injury, but as a sprinter he prefers minimal float to really ‘lock in’ his position – think he mentioned Look blue cleats.

Hey Trikeman, long time no hear and all that. You didn’t dream it, in fact I’ve just PM’ed you to check it still works. I just right-clicked on your name, open in new tab, then click on the contact button.

Funnily enough, I was just reading a comment from wheelz on the carbon rims thread – looks like he’s replaced the Chinarello with a Colnago, or Chinago, or something…!

    “cyclists dress in childishly
“cyclists dress in childishly coloured rubber” eh?! Are these fetish dogging cyclists or something?

“a rubber sheath astride two orbs” what in the name of poor journalism is this guy on about?!

He even manages to have a dig at the whole of Yorkshire for being positive about hosting the grand depart…

So this wasn’t posted on their website then Glyn? I wonder why… 😕 That would have been amusing.

    I guess it’s the consumables
I guess it’s the consumables cost that will be the pain over time. Buying a great bike using a bonus, savings or credit card is one thing, but a new SR cassette and chain, tubs, replacement spokes for the Boras etc won’t be cheap. Glad you like it though!

I suspect it’s not classed as bulk mail, it’s individual correspondence, so I don’t think they need to provide an opt-out. I’ve had a couple of these from wiggle but not a massive amount.

Seriously?! No, I don’t think mixing crank lengths is a good idea – just invest in new cranks on the trainer.

There’s plenty of them in the
There’s plenty of them in the club, no problems with them. That includes one owned by the club mechanic, a really good bike rider who wouldn’t tolerate rubbish. I had a quick spin on an R872 Stealth, stiff and fast bike, and the owner loves it.

In fairness, I think they’re the same frames as you’ll get from Dolan, Graham Weigh, possibly Planet-X etc. None of these brands really have huge amounts of kudos compared to say a Cervelo or a Kinesis, although plenty of top riders have ridden Dolans.

Sounds nice! I suppose it depends what kind of riding you do, 953 being apparently a bit harsher ride but a bit stiffer.

But some of the nutcases on Twitter are frightening, that king wrong un ‘digger forum’ doesn’t come across as a well person at all.

There is something that feels a bit funny about the Vuelta though.

Digger forum indeed, what a strange one.

I think it’s the repeated attacks on 30% inclines, it all feels a little, well, 90s.

Cool stuff, can you expand on
Cool stuff, can you expand on the carbon frame discussion? I love the Genesis 953 steel frames, but I can’t decide if subsequent mnufacture of a carbon frame, issued to the team, is an admission that steel wasn’t doing it for them. The regular email update from the team talks about lighter weight being an advantage, but the steel bikes were already at 6.8kg, so I don’t see where there is any scope to lose weight?

Well in that case just buy
Well in that case just buy the one that looks the fastest. No, seriously. Buy the one that will drag you out of bed on Sunday mornings to thrash the knackers off it, because that will have infinitely more effect on your performance and enjoyment than any of the myriad small differences between what are all good bikes.

Super smashing great. I’d have been hankering after a slightly more colourful end result myself, but with something that expensive I can certainly see the rationale in going ‘stealth’… I’ll bet it’s quick.
