Still awful here, I’m staring at those three blobs gifs for ever, and it’s not my internet that’s the problem… and I’ve whitelisted road.cc so it’s not adblock either.
Sort it out, road.cc!

I’d recommend replacing the seatpost clamp with a rack mount seat clamp to get the top fittings, and then mount to the axle. There are fittings for either QR or through axles (see below). That way the load is taken straight to the wheel and the front rods take the horizontal load through the seat clamp, which is a strong point.

Depends on the pads. Those cork style pads are pretty average, but Campag red (carbon) pads and Swissstop yellow (carbon) pads work very well indeed on modern carbon rims. Indeed, compared to alloy rims you might find them a bit ‘grabby’ or ‘on/off’ than an alloy rim. I find them brilliant – absolutely no problem stopping. Just don’t ever drag them, so you don’t overheat the rims.

High end Fulcrum (Campag) hubs are brilliant. Roll beautifully and are completely adjustable and serviceable. Don’t know about the rims though.

Some tourers and trekking
Some tourers and trekking bikes are made to 132.5mm spacing, so they can take either qr ‘road’ wheels (130 mm OLN) or ‘touring’ wheels (135 mm OLN). Spreading/closing a steel frame that much will not hurt it – see Sheldon Brown’s advice if you’re worried.

I just discovered one of those in the shed. In good condition too. Thinking of converting the bulb to an LED and running it for the retro vibes :))

The problem with simple
The problem with simple ‘torch’ style lights is that they put the light in the wrong place. You need a shaped beam to make the road visible. The key thing is beam shape, not output. This article explains why:

If you want a quality battery powered light with a shaped beam, and you don’t want to go with a dynamo setup, I’d recommend this:

Shamal Ultra wheelsets can be
Shamal Ultra wheelsets can be ordered with a Shimano HG freehub (part FH-BUU015X1) or Campag (part number FH-BUU015). All you need to change them is a single allen key and an adjustable spanner. Note that it’s a left hand thread!
But if you’re going with 11 speed, it doesn’t matter whether you have a Shimano or Campag freehub and cassette, as they’re perfectly compatible with either 11 speed drivetrain. The Campag freehub is alloy, meaning it’s appreciably lighter, but the Shimano will give you the option of larger big sprockets, if that’s important.
