Oh well, that’s a shame… 3D printing has been done before, see here

You’ll just need to find an STL file for similar as the ready made one from the US, once postage has been considered, is getting on for halfway towards the price of a new lever.

    My go-to places for Shimano

My go-to places for Shimano parts are SJS and Woolly Hat Shop.

If the one you have there is R3000, the LH one is at Woolly Hat Shop.

    https://www.bikeparts.co.uk/products/shimano-sl-r3000-left-hand-indicator-unit

    Edit to add

the RH one at SJS, my initial thought was well founded

    https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/gear-spares/shimano-sora-slr3000-indicator-unit-right-y06j98010/

In fact, SJS have the other parts and exploded diagram listed on that item under associated parts.

If it’s not R3000, identify it on si.shimano.com and get the part numbers, chances are SJS or WHS will have it in stock or on order.

It’s possible the issue is less to do with the Bluetooth connectivity (although it’s sort of related) and that’s because your workout coaching programmes may require TP to be able control the trainer’s resistance, and for the trainer to send back power data. I would suggest looking for a trainer that supports the protocols FE-C (over ANT+) and/or FTMS (over Bluetooth), this will provide the two-way communication that a platform like Training Peaks needs to work. As mentioned, direct drive trainers are far better than wheel-on types, although a dedicated smart bike is better still if you can run to it.

A better metric maybe private car ownership. I have no actual evidence for this other than “anecdata” but I think back in the early 90s, there were around 22m cars on the road, many families had a single car, now there are approx 34m, the same families have multiple cars. This is apparent in how it feels to either drive or cycle anywhere now.

The filler caps are often vented to allow air to escape as the liquid expands in warmer temperatures, and air to be let in as the fuel level goes down.

Sorry to hear this, it could be due to a diesel spill. I sometime see vehicles that have been filled to the brim and then it as it turns a corner in the opposite direction to the side the filler is on, fuel leaks from the filler neck, and if it’s diesel, doesn’t evaporate.

New addition to the fleet, a Specialized Aethos. This is the Comp model, 12 speed 105 Di2, 10r carbon layup in pearlescent white, with upgraded wheels (Roval Alpinist SLX) and power meter (4iiii Precision 3+). Lightweight, and very comfortable.

    I can highly recommend Argos

I can highly recommend Argos (not the shop), rather Argos Racing Cycles in Bristol, I couldn’t be more happy with the restoration frameset they prepared and painted for me a few years ago.

I think it was me who posted

I think it was me who posted the “theoretical cyclist” mag cover in Favourites Funnies…

Anyway, weather not been so bad down here on the south coast since the start of the year, however a week of very low temperatures and me not prepared to take the risk of months off the bike with a broken wrist or collarbone has meant I’ve only been “out out” twice this year, an evening spin doing seafront laps, and a longer club cafe run out to Puddletown last week. However I’ve also kept my legs spinning and everything else going with several indoor sessions on Zwift in between, and have managed in the first two weeks of 2025 approx 165km or just over 100 miles in total.

    Roll on the spring…

Yep, my dad was a handler

Yep, my dad was a handler (wafu chockhead) in the Fleet Air Arm back in the 70s/80s/90s and he said the worst thing about when Top Gun came out in ’86 was the pilots got out of their cab (usually Wasp, Lynx, Sea King) at Portland, the Wayfarers & helmet would be theatrically removed like they were Tom Cruise in uniforms suits with many zips and pockets.

A derivation of the old joke

A derivation of the old joke “How do you know if somebody is vegan?”, answer is “They’ll tell you.”

Bringing it back to cycling, in a similar vein to:

“There’s a fellow at work who has just taken up cycling.”

“How can you tell? Have they lost weight? Are they much happier generally, do they use the stairs instead of the lift?”

“No, he won’t shut up about it.”
