Was just reminiscing about cycling from years ago, when you could buy bikes for 100s of pounds rather than multi 1000s,and the roads wernt full of cars and potholes, and got thinking about the 1st forum I was on,the cycling weekly one… and wondered what happened to the people that posted there.
I know that a certain BFergie, who i bought some wheels off, moved to France when we had brexit… and a NobbyK was on another long gone forum I was on.. but any of them on this forum,to reminisce about the good old days??

Me too.  And, somewhere in the shrubbery, there lurks a pheasant who achieved high office in said RCUK.

Due in part of course to discovery of penicillin and widespread infant vaccination programmes, leading to much longer life expectancy. And as a race, we keep having children (in my situation we’ve replaced ourselves with a boy and a girl for example, and we’re living longer).

A better metric maybe private car ownership. I have no actual evidence for this other than “anecdata” but I think back in the early 90s, there were around 22m cars on the road, many families had a single car, now there are approx 34m, the same families have multiple cars. This is apparent in how it feels to either drive or cycle anywhere now.

The UK population is currently a whisker over 69 million. The UK population in the 1901 census was 41 million. When exactly did you start cycling?

Was never on the CW forum, but now that the BikeRadar forum has folded there may just be a few inflatables migrating from there in the near future.
