My POC pads fell to bits, replacements unobtainable.

I have sown them up and they now still work.  New ones would be more comfortable, but they are enough for the scratchy velcro not to get me sore.

And unfortuantely todays standard will not be THE standard in a little bit.

When I chose 27.5×3 it was already becoming a redundant format.

    Nice!  The bicycle that is.

    Nice!  The bicycle that is.

    Reasonable prices and very customisable.

Obviously not meant to be, but wouldn’t something second hand have sufficed, you could have upgraded and made it hers together.

I have often had threads come off the bead area like that, never caused me any problems.

I have pulled over 20 of your finest british thorns out of each of my 3 inch Maxxis Chronicle thorn magnets, and the satisfaction of seeing the wonders of Orange Endurance seal up those ride ruining nasties is very smug inducing.

I run very low pressures so cannot possibly comment on road tubeless tyres.

I like running quality rubber, and latex tubes in my other bicycles, punctures are part of life.  The nastyness of puncture resistant tyres, let alone Tannus, fills me with horror.

Their little bits take at least a week and a half, maybe two.  If I remember correctly.

I think with the current bicycle boom, if you were to get it in only four weeks you may ba a fairly lucky person.

    A tire boot wouldn’t hurt,

A tire boot wouldn’t hurt, even over a thin glued patch, but if it’s very long term it will eventually hurt the inner tube.  The boot eventually disintergrates, causing edges which dig into the tube.  But it will give you more life in the tyre, wear it out quickly.

I’d be more worried about tripping over stuff, being a shared path it was not the smoothest of tarmac.

Last week I encountered an oncoming pedestrian who appeared to be watching a video on a large tablet.  He of course could have been reading and lisening to music.  I did manage to attract his attention with light ring of my bell (Crane Riten, brass, Japanese, beautiful tone and sustain) and we passed safely on the relatively narrow shared route.  I was of course prepared to stop and I had already slowed in anticipation, though I do find the unavoidable small skid on the rear can scare the poop out of unaware walkers.

I am sometimes suprised by the publics demand to be constantly entertained, I do like to try and be aware of what’s going on around me.

Quiteish bicycle, but I find the crunching/rumbling of my tyres does detract from the birdsong and other sounds of nature.

They are never going to take

They are never going to take the big hit though, you on the other hand are a few scratches and small dents, rather than writing off their precious vehicle and perhaps hurting themselves.

It is why overtaking when they cannot see what might be coming is the ultimate in pure selfeshness.

    I like real food myself,

I like real food myself, bananas in BananaGuards, homemade flapjacks and brownies, for the longer ride a cheese and pickle sarnie, with mayo and spring onion if I’m feeling flash.  On an especially long day I might have a bacon and brie sarnie before I set off, mmmm.

A coldish can of coke, kept in a neoprene coozie is a wonderful pick me up.

And jelly babies for emergency energy.

I only ever put water in my bottles.  A couple of them are insulated.  Filled with cold water and left in the fridge for a few hours or overnight really makes a difference on the very hot days.

Of course you want to be drinking and eating before you really need to…
