Oh, and I don’t know why but it really annoys me when I nod or say hello to another cyclist and they just blank me. I shouldn’t care, but I do.Kadinkski

On my commute home the other night some dude in a car was wheel sucking me. We stopped at some traffic lights and I say ‘oi, mate, hows about you take a turn at the front’. He wound his window up and looked at me like I was mad.Kadinkski

To be fair there is a lot of moaning and negativity on this site. I suspect – at least in terms of the equipment reviews – it’s largely due to an unusual mixture of audience: both wealthy and poor people frequent this site. Or at least those who like spending their money on fancy bike gear and those that don’t. I’m simplifying it of course but a site like DCRainmaker is very clearly targeted toward a more discerning and affluent audience, whereas this site tries to be all things for all people.Regarding the Lance Armstrong vitriol, I just find it funny. Laugh it off – its got to the stage where its just a parody – he’s the archetypical pantomime villain. It’s as if he introduced drugs to cycling. To be honest I used to hate him about 6 months ago too, now I really admire him again – opinions change.

Have you considered the disc
Have you considered the disc version of the domane 4.5? Comes with Thru axels and takes size 28 tyres, for the type of riding you’re doing i think the disc brakes would be a revelation.Personally i can’t stand the fluro green of the émonda, but each to their own. It would be lighter and zippier than the domane (7.9kg vs about 8.5kg) but only comes with 105, as opposed to ultegra on the domane.
If it was me shopping for an enduro/sportive/all-weather bike, i would pay the extra £300 for the disc version of the domane, but like the others say, they’re both fantastic bikes and its a tough choice that only you can make. Good luck!

I wish I could edit the thread title. I would rename this to ‘The de rosa buyers club’.And get Matthew McConaughey to star in it.

Obviously it#s £450 worth of profit they are losing but they won’t make a penny if they don’t sell it! I would try 2 or 3 dealers to see what the best deal is they would make (possibly free clothes/accessories and a small discount). Remember – if you spend megabucks there then hopefully they’ll look after you in the future with services etc.
Ultimately, if you don’t get a good deal, you know what you’re getting from Wiggle.Yeah, agreed. I don’t begrudge anyone making a profit but if they include a proper bikefit in the sale i’ll be happy. having said that if it really was £450 cheaper online, well that’s a different story.

Regarding the LBS versus Internet thing – is a local shop likely to match or do something to get closer to the online price in peoples experience? There’s a couple of shops vaguely near me who are De Rosa stockists, but I’m having a hard time seeing past the £450 I’d save by buying one from Wiggle, assuming the shop would charge RRP.
Wiggle just seems to be the same price as everywhere else – £2,999 & £3,699k which is also the RRP, isn’t it….or am I being thick?

You have Edwardes in Camberwell & Maison Du Velo in Reigate. Oh and just read Kadinskis misfortune, sorry to hear about that. Plenty of polishing tables, also lying on back, fingers outstretched and aiming to use tricep to get back of hand as close to floor as possible + lying on front on a bed with damaged arm dangling and straightening it from elbow so parallel to body. You can also get these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuIQJgqVIJ8 (look for vids where you rotate them around each other) and doing these exercises gently exercises the tendons higher up your arm. These exercises will help get your arm straight as possible. Thanks – that’s a really great idea! I’ve just ordered some baoding balls.

Oh shit! That’s terrible mate – genuinely sorry to hear that. I can empathise somewhat as i can’t ride at the moment either (broken hand), no damage to my bike though. Can you get insurance for the incident?
I’m helping my recovery process by researching my new disc brake bike…but i guess you can’t do that as it was a new bike anyway.

Its not lightweight with the discs, but they just work so well. Not had much of a chance to ride it seriously yet, but planning to hit Holme Moss this weekend for a proper workout. Definitely well pleased with it as a step up from my alu Trek. That’s the one I’ve got my eye on! I just can’t go back to rim brakes after trying discs. Please let me know how you feel about it after a decent ride – so hard to find reviews about it.
Well, I didn’t make it into the big hills round here what with the snow, but gave it a good 75km today. Love it. Sharp and tight, feels great at speed, and the Ultegra gear is such a snappy step up from my last bike. The discs are great, not over powered just loads of really controllable progressive power. I think it could benefit from a lighter wheelset as the overall package certainly aint the lightest for a £3k bike (although if really bothered by weight discs would be first choice I guess). Anyway a lovely ride, confident and nippy. Just needs a better engine at the mo (damn you Christmas).
The ride was somewhat marred by being knocked off a minute from home by a left turning Rav4.
Thanks for that – sharp and tight is what i’m after! Its definitely on my shortlist to test ride in a couple of weeks once my cast comes off!
Sorry to hear about the rav4 incident – hope no damage was done to the bike.
Oh, and to you 😉

I think the colnago c60 disc
I think the colnago c60 disc will be di2 too. But that will probably be double the price of the xeon.I had a look at a focus cayo disc the other day too, it wasn’t even on my radar but the dude in the shop told me it was worth considering. I’ve got a broken hand so couldn’t take it on a test ride, but from what I saw I was hugely impressed – the raciest and lightest road disc bike I’ve seen so far. Full carbon fibre, hydro discs, amazing thru axles, comes with a retul bike fit…its not di2, but super easy to upgrade…£2k for sram and £2.3k for ultegra. I’ll defo be taking it for a test ride when the cast is off.
But god, I must admit, that xeon is a real spanner in the works.

Just to add to the list above
Just to add to the list above there’s also the de rosa idol disc with di2 for £3,699.99I haven’t found any deal like the xeon though in terms of components for that price, I haven’t heard of any obvious problems either. I just can’t bring myself to buy it through the internet. A couple of weeks ago I emailed them asking about tyre sizes for the DT Swiss wheels and it took 3 days for them to come back to me with a one line answer and it didn’t even answer the question properly anyway. It totally put me off dealing with them further.
Personally I’d rather pay a bit more for the peace of mind of dealing with a proper shop, getting it fitted properly, and buying a bike that the salesman can tell me everything about rather than trying to find reviews online. But I know others feel differently.
