Scaphoid and snapped ulna (ulnar?) late 2013… nightmare. Surgery to re-set the bone, lots of painkillers, months of physio.

On the plus side, I bought a bike to stay fit as I wasn’t allowed to play football for months, so I’d never have found my favourite hobby and by extension, you lot! :H

Hah! I was thinking about taking up football to retain fitness.

Crikey. Okay, sounds like I’d better stick around.

Managed to find an antique cycling weekly magazine to read anyway.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

The pain is on the left side
The pain is on the left side of my left hand, just before the knuckles of my little finger and the next finger.

There is some pain in the wrist and fingers, but that feels more like a sprain. The hand part with the pain is swollen, but not massively.

I think it got crunched beneath my weight and the handlebar/brake – it was enough force the the left brake & hood twisted around.

Just as an aside, I do love how Canyon publish the weights of their bikes. It annoys me how companies like Giant and even shops like Evans expect you to spend a decent wad of cash and they can’t tell you the weight of what they want you to buy.

Yesterday I was making a recipe that required crushed pistachio nuts. I wrapped the nuts in a load of cling film, put it on a chopping board, and bashed it with the bottom of a wine bottle. And bugger me, when I opened the cling film hardly any crushing had occurred!

And the best bit is that its on special at Waitrose at the moment – buy 2 rolls and the second is half price.

Something similar happened to me a couple of weeks ago on my 6-week-old rear conti 4 seasons.

Out of interest more than anything, I tried just riding again with a new tube and not repairing the tyre and sure enough I got another puncture within a few minutes.

So I put a couple of patches from my puncture repair kit on the inside of the tyre then ran a couple of layers of duct tape over top of the patches. Then I filled the hole with rubber cement from the outside.

Seems to have done the trick so far – no more punctures since then.

I think this is rather unfair, look at the current news feed and most is obvious stuff and you have to go a few articles in until the first ‘gore’ article which is actually a good news one.

Its been so much better the last few weeks.

    I had something similar this
I had something similar this summer – a dull pain in the back right of my right leg that kicked in between 10-15 miles. I’d limp a bit for 30 minutes or so after I got off the bike but then it was absolutely fine. It drove me nuts.

I spent months trying things to fix it myself but it always came back. Eventually I bit the bullet and went to see a sports physio. It turns out it wasn’t the knee itself but a tendon at the top of the calf.

I know its unlikely in your case, but in my case it was caused by a seat height that was very slightly too high. I had a proper bike fitting and did the therapy (mostly a variety of stretching) and it was completely fine in about 2 weeks.

I wish I had seen the professionals sooner, so its great that you’re giving them a call.

This is in London. I don’t doubt that there is actually a bike in the box, as they have the ebay moneyback buyer’s guarantee.

But it does seem very suspicious, if it was a genuine purchase from Canyon, it could have been returned. The box hasn’t even been opened so it can’t be an issue with size/colour etc. If he had obtained it genuinely, surely he would put in the description a note about why he was selling it – quite common for genuine sellers of bikes on ebay these days.
