Its a triple…..but its fairly cheap. Then again its the lowest end groupset.

So all in all, decent value for a starter road bike, but don’t expect anything special

I looked at this option a while back and agree with your LBS…..New bike. 😉

Basically what you need, instead of mixing and matching parts here and there would be a full groupset. Because as you have found out, 8 speed tiagra or above is rare and older model. What you maybe haven’t noticed is that triple’s are about as rare and expensive aswell.

I have no idea. I just base my lights on the rear so that people can easily work out I’m a bike, I never thought about their perception of how close or far away they were from me either as I’ll see them normally long before they see me 😕

Not every team can afford him. But most could if they and their sponsors wanted him. 😉

When going for a highend bike. Concentrate on the frame. get something that fits and in comfortable. Parts come and go, can be changed, replaced and upgraded. The frame is the main part on which your bike is build.

So frame everytime. Forget about the groupset it comes with as at those kinda of prices, they have the top two sets away, Ultegra or Dura Ace, unless its a really high end frame and it might be 105. Which is still a good groupo.

But I think you are wrong to think that they are the only one’s who can afford him. If a team wanted him, they could afford it.

AG2R – Insurance company, need I say more.

Astana – State owned companies from Kazakhstan that fund them, could quite easily afford him.

FDJ – French Lotto.

I could go on. But he’s affordable to the sponsors as a tool for advertising. You’ve got to look at it that way rather than his ability to ride and how much his wage would be.

Would you like him to advertise your company? We know he can win stages, classics and small tours. How much would you pay to have your name on his chest everytime he crossed the line in front and also on the podium. Then have him at your HQ and various other events throughout the year……Its gotta be worth a fair bit.

Road.cc…..How much would you pay if you still had your name on a teams shirt and had multi-million pounds in the bank to spend?

But there is really NO need to change much for next season.

I know the riders value’s with be different and changeable. So thats going to be interesting.
