Since posting I’ve got to the end of Ludwig and I’d say it was a relatively* worthwhile watch.

The last 15 minutes of the final episode were as though the scriptwriter had just got the nod from the top floor about a second series and had about 24 hours to amend things before they were due to shoot.  Clearly it would have been game over if the missing man had have turned up, but we got a shadowy glimpse of him.

    * that’s coming from someone now in the market for a couple of Hill Street Blues DVDs. I vaguely remember it and was reading a recent re-appraisal saying how influential it was, how its DNA could be found in many other cop shows.

This one mentions the opening of a new road, as well as road works as being the problem. Great time saver you’ve got there.

The story, in case you meet

The story, in case you meet the Kent Online paywall, is that he parked his EV in the car park, connected it but, he claims, his ‘phone was dead which meant that the charging terminal would not work, so he walked home (“5 minutes” is mentioned), plugged in said phone and started the car charging from there.

The commenters aren’t having it, though – charge your ‘phone like a normal person seems to be the message.

I assume the vehicle was observed wrongly parked for longer than 5 minutes before the ticket was issued.

Drivers always want to stretch the rules – if you’re a public transport user whose ticket is on a dead ‘phone or you’re 5 minutes late, there’s going to be a consequence.

I always think there’s a social problem to solve with EV charging – drivers use a petrol pump and generally they move on.  An EV needs to be left for a while, but site proprietors need a way to get charged up vehicles to clear the space for the next customer.

Middle Street, where he lives, looks to be a car’s width wide – how can anyone possibly live there???

The defendant – who had no licence and the car was insured, untaxed with no MOT – admitted driving at 100mph and believes he hit a verge.

East Thanet MP Polly Billington criticises Kent County Council’s objection to new NHS health hub in Broadstairs

Accusing KCC of a “spurious” attempt to block the plans, Ms Billington said: “It beggars belief that KCC is tabling objections to this vital expansion of community health provision on the grounds of traffic congestion and parking when it is the Tory-controlled council that has overseen record cuts to bus services and an abject failure to maintain the quality of local roads.

    I thought once you’d flashed

I thought once you’d flashed your plastic, the deed was pretty much done and was irreversible. Interesting what, in this parkco’s case, is set up to generate a penalty notice, rather than just collect the £2 fee. I’m sure this will blow over.

    Couple furious over £100

Couple furious over £100 parking fine despite paying at Harlyn Bay

They said the ‘incompetent’ parking enforcement company screwed it up in the first place

The slight new twist here is that the driver seems to have used a bank card to buy the 2h parking ticket, but there was some kind of delay in the £2 payment going through.

The comments seldom disappoint: my favourite is –

“Time to counter attack. […] Sue for defamation of character. Demand a refund for unused portion of the parking fee.”

    I’m not a vegan, but I think

I’m not a vegan, but I think the vegans are right. Stop exploiting animals for food and for your entertainment.

A bit like driving, you either have to not think about things too much, or simply not care – the supply industry will help you along by giving you a warm & fuzzy, restricted view of what your consumption entails. If you’re not fussy, then keeping up the payments is all that matters.

As the monster truck / bike pic upthread shows, taking a minority position often gets a through the looking glass response from the uncaring/ unthinking majority.  “There are cyclists everywhere!”/ “there are no cyclists”.

Drink driver six times over the limit sentenced after crashing car into house in Broad Street, Sheerness

The defence barrister also noted that since his offence he had been diagnosed with a medical condition and has had further instances of passing out, adding: “The condition does appear to have had some impact.”

Explaining his other offences, she said: “Mr Morland was homeless living in his car and officers stopped him when he was drinking in his car, which was essentially his home.

I guess that close pass might count as “using unnecessary physical contact”? I didn’t know about that service, although it very much sounds like you need to be a pupil, not a 3rd party to use it.
