    There seems to be an

There seems to be an obsession about “finding out who all these long-term contracts are let to” …and then what? (as you say).

Aren’t contracts a good thing, like as opposed to all those working from home, union card carrying, EDI advocating, fat-salaried, gold-plated pension council employees?

    You’re absolutely right Mark,

You’re absolutely right Mark, it was just the headline that tickled me. Those £10ks could be better spent on getting a dream bike from Ribble, though.

Hello all. Unfortunately I will no longer be running a sound bath at the Victoria rooms as they hired upstairs to clubbacise…

(Don’t half of all Dad’s Army plots revolve around Mainwaring and Hodges arguing about who’s booked the Church Hall; the other half Jones rafting a river?)

My Nan was never quite the

My Nan was never quite the same after decimalisation in 1971, but it does sound like she’s entered local politics: “If you look after your pennies, the pounds will follow.” (Cllr Graves, Reform leader at DCC.)

Playground politics, Pride flags and prayer – Reform’s first Derbyshire County Council meeting

Reform’s first meeting with the keys to County Hall in hand was one for the books and a sign of things to come

Finally, I guess I’m going to have to get more used to agreeing with Conservatives: Following the meeting, Conservative councillor Nigel Gourlay said: “They have had three weeks and they are not beyond an election leaflet yet.”

    Reform’s first Cornwall

Reform’s first Cornwall Council meeting in opposition is short but eventful

The biggest party’s new councillors refused to vote on pretty much everything as a new leader, chair and vice-chair were elected

    https://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/reforms-first-cornwall-council-meeting-10199349

Rabbits in the headlights springs to mind here.  EDI and coming face to face with a world that isn’t as one-dimensional as you’ve convinced yourself it is can be a flash-point for some people. So interesting to see that Reform are already running scared of going on a training course.

Then there’s the whinge below, in short crying to Teacher (not the LGA’s role to intervene) because something, something it’s not fair (also: see above). Mate, despite sitting on your hands for the pretty much all the Council meeting, you are entitled to 68 committtee seats and 68 you have been allocated. Fucking grow a pair and make your nominations.

    https://democracy.cornwall.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=584&MId=13876&Ver=4 – items 11 and 14 refer

“Reform group leader, Cllr Rob Parsonage, revealed after the meeting that they have approached the Local Government Association (LGA) to arbitrate after the largest party on the council claimed it had been denied “any meaningful representation on council committees, including our reasonable request for a single chair position on a scrutiny committee. This blatant exclusion ensures Reform UK has no ability to influence decisions or deliver the change our voters demanded”.

    I like the implication that

I like the implication that the Council’s finances are somehow a big secret that you have to get elected to unravel. You’re supposed to be good with money, so read the ****ing accounts:

2024/25 will in draft and will be published soon.

Reform UK pledge spending review as Staffordshire County Council leader in place

Ian Cooper has been officially named the new Staffordshire County Council leader

“Now the cabinet and myself can really press on with delivering our priorities for Staffordshire residents and businesses. This includes examining in detail how, where and how much we are spending across the council, focusing first on core service, such as the care of the elderly, children’s services and highways and promoting clean, safe and thriving communities.”

I’msorrywhat: “promoting clean, safe and thriving communities” – sounds a bit namby-pamby to me, who vetted this bloke??

    I guess if you’re in

I guess if you’re in opposition to the govt you either have to say the Europe deal is insignificant, as I think I heard Kemi Badenoch say, or that it represents STARMER’S MASSIVE BREXIT BETRAYAL or something like that (Daily Mail headline, which I’m surprised even plays now with their declining readership.)

I find myself closer to Kemi’s position, although I think for different reasons – it’s something like the basics of a deal that we should have left with in 2019, still falling well short of the “no downsides” Leave pitch that so many people, weirdly, believed.
