I guess the photo is taken from the crossroads with Harzerstaße, looking north-east along Boucherstrße over the border strip inside the outer wall as it turns the corner.

The doorway in the old photo is no 58, so behind where we are now – this position affords the best modern day view.

This is an aerial shot of the Steinstucken exclave – enclave from the GDR’s point of view. It seems extraordinary now how municipal boundaries (tedious to 99.9% of people) were adopted militarily and as a way to settle the biggest conflict ever to affect Europe.

These exclaves raised sovereignty issues that led to repeated conflicts. Traffic to and from Steinstücken, for instance, the only exclave with permanent residents, was often hindered as it crossed GDR territory, resulting in frequent confrontations between GDR authorities, residents, representatives of the Berlin Senate, and the American allies.

A 5′ wide, 3′ deep trench across the road width would stop everything but the Tank Regiment.

Hundreds of shoppers want second Wolstanton Retail Park access as drivers fined

It comes as shoppers are stuck in queues

The current infrastructure continues to create daily problems for both residents and visitors to the retail park, making it increasingly difficult to enter or leave our homes and businesses.

Let me see if I’ve got this right : the opening of the Etruria Link (leading east from the Queensway roundabout) has made things worse, so you want another road to fix it?

And your idea for this second entrance is..?

Said one shopper, “We have to come, here, we have no choice, you see. Yesterday the traffic situation was so bad I had to wind my window down and use my phone to take a picture.”

I like how it has taken drivers so long to move that it’s got dark. Great timesaver, guys.

    Drivers bring full road

Drivers bring full road closures on themselves

Red-light dodgers blamed as Stoke-on-Trent road to shut for six weeks

There have been plenty of rule-breakers around the roadworks

On the impending Milton Road closure, a city council spokesperson said: “Milton Road, Sneyd Green, will be closed from Sunday May 25 for six weeks to allow Severn Trent Water to continue with the upgrades safely. The road will be closed between Noblett Road and Ralph Drive. This is due to motorists failing to comply with temporary lights, which risks the safety of other road users, pedestrians, and staff. Please plan journeys in advance.”

    It’s worth remembering what

It’s worth remembering what laissez-faire capitalism used to look like for the working classes, not least for children.

    Factory Act

    United Kingdom [1833]

    https://www.britannica.com/event/Factory-Act-United-Kingdom-1833

The kicker with the 1833 Act is in the final sentence in the Britannica entry “Crucially, the act established a four-member inspectorate to enforce the law and impose penalties.”

I did Economic and Social 1815-1914, but the C18th increasingly looks like (for some) a really prosperous time for Britain: “you can’t talk about the eighteenth century economy without talking about slavery” as one TV historian scoffed.

Yes, I know you can sanctify the agrarian past with men in smocks, pots of cider, swaying corn, cheery women in mob caps and you can also portray the ind rev as dark satanic mills, a wall to wall Lowry painting / trouble at’mill.
