A newspaper headline that clearly describes the story is quite refreshing to see. It beats “Exact time bus hit hospital canopy” or “Hospital that treated Stacy Solomon* hit by bus” or “Onlookers gasp as bus does this one unusual thing” or if anyone connected, however remotely, with any Harry Potter** movie was involved, “[Cousin of] Harry Potter actor in bus horror crash”

(Does riding my bike off the turbo make me a ‘wild cyclist’? Actually, that might make for a decent t-shirt.)

And to what end? No
And to what end? No politician can ever count drivers as life-long supporters because whatever you give them, drivers will always want more. Plus if Bristow looks a few miles down the A605/A45, he’ll come to Wellingborough, the biggest place I know of that has free, unrestricted off-street town centre car parking – the retail boom town you’ve never heard of.

Health fears amid SGN’s plans to shut Head Hill Road linking Faversham to Graveney and Goodnestone
With the stretch closed between Whitstable Road and the Four Horseshoes pub, a usual two-minute trip will take 10 minutes via a five-mile diversion.
If Monkshill Road clogs, as it has done previously, drivers must go through Whitstable and Seasalter, adding four miles and more time – especially at rush hour with no emergency access.
“There’s a duty of care to support us. The whole road is going to be shut, and they’re saying the reason why they can’t use (a traffic light system) is that it’s unsafe for their staff.”
If only the diversion roads were clear of private motorists, the ambulance would have a better chance of getting through quickly. It’s not Samantha’s fault, but it increasingly looks like the standard H&S risk assessment for this sort of thing, which will be based on experience and analysis, is full closure.
PPS A little glimpse of the daily insanity of mass motoring here:

from what I’ve seen, the digging for the Salisbury gas leak is all on the pavement but they’ve still closed off one lane. I saw another example on the approach to Ringwood: guys looked to be doing something with a ditch several feet back from the road, but again had a lane closed on their side.

Driver who smashed into The
Driver who smashed into The Pilot Inn in Dungeness causing £50k damage after ‘drinking all day’ walks free
The red car had approached the notorious sharp bend in Battery Road when it veered off the carriageway into the pub.
A male driver had been seen vacating the vehicle after the smash.
I’ve not looked back to see if we had this incident on here when it occurred back in August. I know it’s the defence’s job to plead mitigation, but will someone please think of the drunk driver who, having done all this, sauntered away from the scene.

Ah, I see the intrepid wild swimmers need immediate access to their cars to warm up after their swim, that’s why you can’t have a café and restored cliff lift here.

Mayor sparks free parking
Mayor sparks free parking debate as locals say ‘there is no such thing as free parking’
Readers have been reacting to the news that the Combined Authority Mayor says a local council is holding up his plan to offer free parking in the city centre
Skipper says: “I am not sure there is more money in it by forcing cars out – except perhaps by the ever increasing sky high car parking fees and the threat of congestion charging. Its more of an ideological mind block among city centrists, coupled with lycra fans gaining positions of control to suit their own ends.
“Nice start Mr Bristow. You did promise in your campaign to end the war on the motorist. We desperately need your help in halting and reversing the attrition of free parking spaces in and around Cambridge. Perhaps you could organise some government courses for the the push bike obsessed powers that be in Cambridge to educate them that the push bike is not a practical method of transport in our rural county.”

Enshittification – initially coined in relation to online stuff, but perhaps has a wider application.
Strange one about the buses, given the £3 cap – although on Morebus around here, even a short hop to the next village is the full £3.
Bike lights have never been better – the main irritation is that every designer seems to have to come up with a new bracket (and it’s often an afterthought) or yet another new charging arrangement.
The airports always interest me – here in microcosm is the world that unchecked capitalism delivers. Add to that the Ryanair style passenger charges chronicled down the years by the Daily Mash. He’s quite victim-ey about the parking charge for drop-off and the short window, “but I might crash into someone”.
And having been caught out there, maybe keep a closer eye on the time when you’re parked – there’s something a bit naff about the repeated “please think of the children”/ “but I was only trying to help someone else” underlying narrative.
I only see Netflix in holiday homes – when I browse through it, there’s nothing I want to watch, so no thanks on that. But then there’s hardly anything on any TV today that I want to watch. I’ve never taken up offers of cloud storage because I figure you’re trapped for life there.
I’d have thought by his time of life, especially if he’s worried about his outgoings, he’d have realised that motorway services, cousins of the airports, are not the place to go shopping. But I guess in my childhood the question of sweets or ice creams at the motorway services never arose.

All fine and dandy being devastated after the event, isnt it. When you see these stories posted on Facebook, the comments are full of drivers talking about the reflective collars the ponies supposedly wear as though that’s going to make a whole heap of difference. Appalling deflection.
