Opinion: With car insurance for youngsters almost £2,000 a year it’s time to reconsider the role of the e-scooter
Can someone write a bot that replies “wait ’til you hear about cars” to each BTL comment?
E scooters are a no- brainer.

Newington villagers call for A2 drivers to stop breaking 20mph limit after speed signs are vandalised

Interesting to see quite an extensive 20 mph zone in place, but I bet it took some doing. You can see the sense of the Welsh approach as for Restricted Roads it puts the boot on the other foot: drivers have to make the case: “how does your wish to go faster trump safety and local amenity? Why do you need to go faster?”

Medway Council scrap free car
Medway Council scrap free car parking on Mondays
Cllr Tris Osborne, the portfolio holder covering parking enforcement, said: “Unfortunately, due to the challenging financial situation we have found the council in, we are no longer able to continue the free parking Monday scheme that was introduced in April.”
I guess if you’re needing to save £2.70 on car parking, you’re not going to be swelling the local shops’ cofffers all that much.

Cars damaged in ‘hit and run’ in North Road, Boscombe
“The car had crashed into the garden wall. It all happened so quick. It was so distressing.”
Another resident said: “I was in my kitchen and then I heard some car squealing noises and then a couple of bumps, and then I saw flashing blue lights.
“I went out and saw the car had gone through my neighbour’s fence and their wall.”

Holidaymaker fuming after £100 fine writes song about parking firm
Grant was so annoyed he decided to poke fun at the parking operator with a song
On August 30, they drove down the road to Trevone Bay but after checking out the beachand the menu at the local cafe, the couple from Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, decided they’d rather return the next day.
Grant said that a month later he received a letter from St Columb-based Alliance Parking saying he owed £100 for leaving his car at the Trevone Bay car park for 11 minutes, even though he did not end up staying there.

Wales Online are being pretty
Wales Online are being pretty sensible about the issue
Why the toxic debate over 20mph masks a massive missed opportunity
It is naïve and wrong to just dismiss this petition
“Presiding officer Elin Jones was clearly rattled and upset by threats and the commentary towards elected members and their staff. I’m told Lee Waters warned colleagues to be on their guard if they were out in public this weekend. My colleagues and I have received horrific, abusive messages for sharing factual pieces.”
Gonna say it again: a lot of this only has a passing acquaintance with transportation.

I’ve equipped a bike with a pair of the Scwalbe spiked tyres for this winter, so I’ll let you know if that’s all people crack it up to be.
I usually consider myself defeated if the three foes of wet, dark and very cold/ very windy are all present. Urban rain seems to make a lot of drivers even more incompetent than usual.
High winds can bring fallen trees, particularly when they’re still in leaf and after a lot of rain. I’ve had to clamber through what was the upper branches or over the trunk a couple of times.
How do fix a puncture in the proper dark? It’s not befallen me so far.
Night cycling on country lanes can be a joy and I used to find most drivers are as wary of those bright lights I run as I am of them – for once, the dark evens things out as they don’t know what’s approaching and they don’t know with any accuracy where the edge of the road is.

Guildford was an occasional Saturday shopping visit for me in the 1990s (going shopping was actually a thing back then, kids) and I remember a traffic-free High Street, but a very car-ey walk there from the station.
Guildford high street is closed to traffic at the following times:
Mon-Fri 11am – 4pm
Sat 9am – 6pm
Sun 12pm – 5pm
Bank holidays 9am – 6pmhttps://www.guildford.gov.uk/article/26340/Town-centre-opening-times

Customer fury over penalty
Customer fury over penalty charges at Tesco superstore car park, off Caird Avenue in New Milton – won’t be shopping there no more klaxon
Another mother told how she could not understand why she had been penalised for using a parent and child space with two children aged eight and 15.
“I won’t be shopping in Tesco no more,” she wrote. “I would understand if I had parked in a disability space.”
https://www.tesco.com/store-locator/new-milton/caird-ave – hmm, no information there about parking rules and restrictions like the ages / number of children you need to be toting use the parent & child spaces. I think if I were Mr Tesco, I’d be tempted to wash my hands of all of it, other than the 3 hour limit.
