The tide was high in Southampton the other night, so leaving it in the underground car park sounds like a great plan.

If only there had’ve been some warning, and if only they lived within striking distance of some major public transport node that might be able to help them with getting to Eastleigh and Basingstoke for their jobs, but I guess that’s car dependency for you.

Reverse snobbery edition
Reverse snobbery edition since all bikes cost at least £2000 – Orbit America c1990 my current commuter hack, a rideaway £100 Ebay purchase last year. It had some nasty rust on the underside of the top tub.
Verigated blue, 531 throughout, early 7s 105 groupset, Gamma strada rims. The rack (£20), mudguards (lying around) and 50/36 chainset (£30) were modifications I made for its new role.

Mum goes to court over
Mum goes to court over parking fine and judge tells firm to pay her
Not only does Jamie not have to pay the £300 fine, the company that tried to charge her has to pay her expenses
Jamie parked near a hospital in Liverpool in September 2021 for a personal medical appointment, but found the machine was broken. She instead bought a ticket over the phone and received a “parking accepted for two hours” text message.
But when Jamie came out of the hospital, she was told her parking had not been “validated” because she didn’t put in her number plate, she claims. She said she wasn’t asked to do this until 12 minutes after receiving the “accepted” text – and didn’t notice until it was too late.
She called customer services but there was no option to speak to a person, she claims. She was put through to an automated system which “hung up” instead, she said.
The parking firm’s lawyers failed to attend the hearing.

“The full-day charge for parking in Hadleigh and Sudbury will reduce from the current £3-a-day to £2.50 – supporting town centre workers, and encouraging visitors from further afield to spend the day exploring the high streets and local attractions.
Refund arrangements are proposed for users of the council’s leisure centres at Sudbury and Hadleigh so no one is deterred from staying fit and active, and also for customers to Roys in Sudbury.
In addition, officers are looking at refunds for users of nearby medical centres and mobile screening facilities, and possible means-tested permit schemes being explored for parents using council car parks for the school drop off and pick up.”
Is there so very much to see in Hadleigh and Sudbury? Utter nonsense about prescriptions etc. Impossible to draw a line – if anything, per Cllr Carter, they should keep the first 30 minutes free – but Google “induced demand” first. The best bit is driving to the leisure centre – “staying fit and active”.

How many licence plates do
How many licence plates do you need on a tractor?
According to the small print in the regs, you need to have one on both sides at the front of the tractor, as well as at the back of the cab. However, almost all tractors just have a rear one, which suggests that there is something of gap out there between theory and practice.

I didn’t have it on my bingo
I didn’t have it on my bingo card for this government that it would be the one to end the driver subsidy known as free parking.
Cllr McCraw added: “”Effectively, with having to use resources to subsidise car parking, it is those people] who are not getting any benefit because they don’t use the car parks there, they don’t get anything back from it, and they can’t genuinely understand why that should be the case.
Cllr Deborah Saw raised concerns over the cuts that could come if parking charges were not introduced.
She said: “I’m on record as saying I am not enamoured of charging for car parking, but I am also on record saying I am not prepared to see leisure centres limit their hours or even close.
“I am not prepared to see our funding for community groups that give advice for people who are in debt culled, or have problems with their landlord, I am not in favour of cutting that.”

That is the question being asked by residents of Whatcote Cottages on London Road, Platt, after being ticked off by the local primary school head teacher who has been leaving notes under their windscreen wipers.
