I saw this on the LBC Twitter
I saw this on the LBC Twitter feed. They put “murdered” in the headline in speech marks, so I asked them to clarify why.
Something needs to be done about the attitude of Joe Public to cyclists. Whilst this is at the very extreme of what we have to put up with, I can’t say I am surprised and I bet most other cyclists aren’t either. From comedians making jokes, to your mates taking the piss, coppers lecturing cyclists on riding in the gutter, the judiciary letting most car criminals off with a warning if it even gets to court…

OP, I had the exact problem
OP, I had the exact problem with the Ultegra 6800 cranks you are worried about. In my case, it wasn’t a sudden failure, it gradually got worse. In fact, I knew there was a problem for a few months, but it wasn’t obviously the cranks for a while, and I thought it was the bb or the rear wheel bearings until eventually the separation was visible whilst pedalling. One end became delaminated, but the other end was still attached.
This was 4 years ago, was a year outside the warranty, and although I had a bit of toing and froing with Shimano and Madison (the importer) they eventually replaced it, and it is still going strong.
From my experience, you don’t have to rush into a swap, you have time to research and choose what works for you.

I’d challenge the reporting
I’d challenge the reporting too…was it an autonomous RR?

I bet you their defence will
I bet you their defence will be…they didn’t see you. Probably because you were in the blind spot of the windscreen pillar. I would have been tempted to lean in and shout right at them.

Their motives are obvious,
Their motives are obvious, but I filled the survey out anyway. At one point I was able to comment that – I know helmets are only rated to 12 mph, that if you are hit by any other vehicle moving at 40 mph or more then the chances of the helmet making any difference are neglible and that statistically you have more chance of banging your head in your bath or you car. But in all my accidents, usually nobody else involved, my head has hit the Tarmac pretty hard, so I usually wear one.

Thanks for the info guys, but
Thanks for the info guys, but it is all cyclist focused. I am trying to find out if there are any figures for cars/lorries/buses/mopeds tc.

I was just reading that!
I was just reading that! What a snivelling little shit he is. More proof, if any were needed, of how badly some treat driving. He admits to speeding and still thinks the punishment was unfair. Mind you, this level of punishment should be handed out more frequently, then people might start to drive properly.

It’s behind a paywall, so I am not getting involved in that. Hopefully there is a thread on twitter where I can contribute my feelings about this typical lazy journalism.

And they come in various sizes too. Mini ones for short rides, full sized for an all dayer.
I also like mini sausages.

Was talking a cycle hating
Was talking a cycle hating troll at work yesterday. I’ve been here 10 years and he still goes on about bloody cyclists
He’s into car modding, apparently some engine remaps have a setting to do this “coaling” thing. The one he was talking about you have to have the hazards on and when you floor it in third, it won’t let you get above 20 or 25 but it dumps all the soot out the exhaust it can. Surely that can’t be legal, if it’s true?March 15, 2022 at 1:07 pm in reply to: Child Hit on Cycle Crossing 40MPH- Red Light Runner Gets Driver Improvement Course #989965Daveyraveygravey
srchar wrote:What sort of dickhead turns up at a crash scene and tells the parent of a seriously-injured child that it’s not so bad because they themselves ran a child over shortly after passing their test?Glad your boy is recovering. However, the system is very sick. Even six points sounds like a piss-take. A driver improvement course, for someone who has literally just passed their test, is a joke.
And that bit where the white hat said “the course of action would be determined by the severity of the injuries”???
The system stinks. Drivers get away with so much, because they are drivers and everyone involved with any case is also a driver, so they are all thinking thank god it wasn’t me, mustn’t be too hard on them.
I’d complain as high as you can go with the police, and get your MP involved. The woman should not be driving without an extended retest. Driving should be seen as a priviledge, not a right, and she is clearly determined to wriggle out of it if she possibly can.
At least your son wasn’t too badly injured. But I think this could drag on for you all for a long time, you may want to think long and hard about how much fight you have in you.

I don’t know what a “friendly” toot sounds like, I cannot remember the last time I heard one. It might be some quaint throwback to the golden age of motoring, but in my experience it just doesn’t happen these days.
Therefore any use of the horn will get my hackles and probably my middle finger up. If you’re driving behind a cyclist, however you use your horn will make them jump, which doesn’t seem advisable to me.

Whereas the neighbours are sitting there in their cars with the engine running and their wipers going back and forth to clear the ice on their windscreens.
(Does anyone else remember when people used to actually scrape their windscreens, using a ‘scraper’, or did I just dream that…?).
Good point! Or they pour water out of the kettle all over their pride and joy. And yes, I still scrape. The bastards that only do a peephole in the windscreen and leave all the other windows frosted up

But they can’t sit in the canteen the company heats for them? One young lad thought it was necessary to have the engine on…to charge his phone. Which is as much a comment on that work-shy bastard who doesn’t want his phone to run out of charge when he should be working…
Space – traffic volume has doubled in 30 years. And all cars and vans are getting bigger and heavier. Some houses have 5 or 6 cars outside them, does everyone living there need a car?

I bought one of their reflective jackets on Black Friday in November. At 60 odd quid, it seemed a relative bargain, and I’m very pleased with it.
