    Sounds terrible, hope you
Sounds terrible, hope you make a speedy recovery and get to spend some insurance money on a shiny new bike!

If you haven’t all ready, make your own notes of everything you can remember about the day. All the contact details of the two ladies, the sequence of events etc. In a week’s time, it won’t be so easy to remember the exact details and you may need them at some point.

The perp sounds like a real scumbag, I guess knowing he was drunk partially explains some of his behaviour, but with b&stards like him on the roads, you just have to hope you don’t come across them too often. I agree with the “Space for cycling” campaign, and would love to see dedicated cycling infrastructure, but it is never going to be a help in cases like this. There should be some kind of awareness campaign that cyclists have as much right to use the roads as anyone else, and that if you can’t overtake something in front of you safely and with consideration, just wait a few minutes.

    Thanks for the feedback
Thanks for the feedback people! I also posted this on Bikeradar and over 50 have viewed but no-one has replied, strange.

I had been pushing myself way beyond normal for me, and was concerned about how much my pace would drop later on, before this attack.

There is a local Specialised with a bike fit set up so will definitely be booking myself in after pay day.

One of the guys at work does extreme tri-events (he was talking about a cross channel swim, lejog, and then a run along the Welsh mountains, ffs!) and he also thinks it was the length of time I had been on the drops pushing myself.

During the 70 mins or so of effort, I drank over a litre of water and had a gel; I’d also had breakfast and more water before hand. Perhaps that wasn’t enough for the effort I was putting in, but I’d say it was slightly more than what I would consume normally in an hour.

I am also going to look into foam rollers, have a read a little about them but not really sure where to get them or how to use them yet.

The episode cast a real shadow over the day; not only was I concerned about getting home after, but if there are any long term effects or damage. I don’t want to have to give up cycling, or drastically change what I do. I’m not a club racer or TT fanatic, I’m just a middle-aged geezer who’s reasonable on a bike.

I drop the C-word way too
I drop the C-word way too often (I wish I could stop myself or tone it down!) when someone drives by with their head up their arse, but always thank those wait for me to get to a wider bit of road or give me a wide berth.

His name is Andrew Frankel, I used to quite enjoy reading his car stuff, but not now. Bet he has a twitter feed, going to let him know what I think…

    Having read the article, I
Having read the article, I don’t see how you can disagree with him; he was referring to a specific incident where a guy did multiple things that should get you into trouble with the Law. I feel the same way when I see cyclists running red lights. I think he could have used the interview to encourage other road users to treat cyclists with more respect, give them more space generally, overtake better specifically and to be more observant of all other road users.

You must report this guy –
You must report this guy – even if the police just go and have a word with him, he’ll realise he can’t behave like he has. Sonofabitch! Just passing you close enough to hit you with the wing mirror is bad enough! Did your bike dent the back of his car? Use that as evidence if you didn’t get the number plate; he porbably goes that way every day.
