A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

https://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/25081035.bexley-man-slams-council-dropped-kerb-nightmare/#

A Bexley man has hit out over a “nightmare” bid to extend his dropped kerb after council contractors laid down new tarmac exactly where his pavement will soon be ripped out.
“What do we want?”
“more paved over gardens so that there is more flooding”
“when do we want it ?”
“now”

Get a sense of proportion. So they were in a bit of a hurry and no-one got hurt. I’ve seen far worse from cyclists, and because they don’t wear number plates they get off scot free.Last Updated: 3 hrs ago

Maidenhead tradesmen fear for future amid ‘disgraceful’ council parking crackdown
The watchful eye of RBWM’s parking department has fallen upon vans used by Ray Street and Ray Park Lane residents, with the council threatening to revoke their permits over claimed rule-breaking.
But their owners say, after years of having to fork out hundreds of pounds for parking permits, the swoop on their vital vehicles is hypocritical and has left them fearing for their futures.
An email to Gary from RBWM parking and enforcement, seen by the Advertiser, said his resident’s parking permit was was breaking the rules because it was too heavy to meet the criteria.
But he hit back at this claim.
“It’s only a small wheelbase Vauxhall Vivaro,” he said. “It’s no bigger than most of the cars when it’s parked in the bays here.”
“Goods vehicles exceeding 1500kg, business vans, lorries and buses are excluded from the scheme. Also you cannot park trailers or caravans whether they are linked or stand alone in a Resident Permit Area. All vehicles must be able to fit into any markings of the bays or area.”
looks to me the Vivaro exceeds the 1500 kg kerb weight limit:
Picture : why, oh why can’t I park my van here?

I think the thing I found more disturbing is all the talk about how the motorist was not under the influence of alcohol at the time, as if that Somehow makes it better… (rather than, IMO, worse)

And, of course, the motorist was a hard working family man who’d never been in trouble with the law before and who was terribly regretful…

I think these duff forces such as Essex Lancashire and Scotland, who simply ignore every offence committed against or even reported by cyclists, are now competing with each other for the Most Anti-Cyclist Trophy. You can’t appeal to the PCC because they always support the police with ‘that’s an operational decision by the police and we can’t interfere’. I recently reported, and showed on here, a close pass offence by a police car driver. There was no response so I complained to the joke Lancashire Constabulary Professional Standards department. They refused to accept any such complaint from me- in writing! I reported the case to the PCC, and they said that because this was a refusal to respond rather than an official response to a complaint in a correct template letter ‘they couldn’t do anything’. I hope the government abolishes these entirely useless PCCs, so there would only be one useless bent policing authority to deal with.
