A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

    Angry Camborne residents

Angry Camborne residents fight Cornwall Council scheme which they fear will leave them with nowhere to park

Presumably this will have a happy ending, with some provision made for those who really need it – if school run drivers will have the good grace to respect this.

If found a twitter thread on

If found a twitter thread on it more bizarre where someone said he used his car as a waepon and someone insisted he didn’t as ‘you don’t know the full facts’. Well, apart from the 1 minute video…

    I had similar recently

I had similar recently cycling on a narrow road. The driver behind tried to go round three sides of a small park to get ahead of me while I cycled along the one remaining side. I confess I actually had to slow down to ensure we intersected at just the right moment.

It seems the regulators must have been missing this big issue for decades!

I once drove out of a car park at the stipulated 10 m.p.h.  An impatient driver behind me tried to get ahead by dodging down a side aisle – left, then right, then right again – only to have to give way to me as I made my way carefully past the junction at which she’d just arrived.  How I laughed at the steam coming out of her ears!

    Well that would explain all

Well that would explain all those #nodriverinvolved “accidents”!  Nick literally just sat in his car and it would not go 20mph!  Perhaps he’d even put it in neutral, or turned the engine off and put the handbrake on?

Hopefully your idea of checking them all will help identify those which are also liable to autonomous behaviour.  After all experiencing this terrifying loss of control means their drivers should be pitied.  Unlike cyclists in a close pass they’re clearly victims here…

    Nick Freeman:

“I hit the Edgware Road and my car would not go 20mph. I am being serious. I am driving with no foot on the accelerator. When the speed limit is artificially, ridiculously low, it is literally impossible to comply with,” he said.

    Shropshire Star serving up

Shropshire Star serving up more grim tales from the local roads.

    • 3 year ban for Market Drayton drink-driver-wanker Mark Parker, who crashed an Astra at Muller Island on the A53. He had no driving licence and no insurance. Nice parking!  (see photo) [article]
    • Car stolen from Ellesmere on Saturday night found abandoned upside down, blocking a nearby country lane. [article]
    • Also on Saturday night, a 19-year-old was killed after the BMW in which he was a passenger crashed into a fence in Shifnal just after midnight on Saturday night. The driver was also 19 years old. [article]
    • 21 year old Liam Greenhill crashed his Corsa late at night last December, launching his friend through the windscreen, breaking his neck. Greenhill had passed his test just 3 months earlier and had 2 bald tyres on his Corsa. 12 month ban (nowhere near long enough IMO). [article]
    • A drugged-up van driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit a cyclist near Ludlow in December 2021, leaving her with kidney damage and needing plastic surgery to her face. [article]
    • Monday morning around 10am – a lorry rolled off the A41 near Hinstock… like you do on Mondays. [article]
    • Two casualties taken to hospital following smash near Market Drayton at 10am on Tuesday morning. The road was closed for 4 hours. [article]

On the same day the Star is one of many outlets to publish a story about an Aston Martin Bulldog that will attempt to hit 200 mph. Is it any wonder that people think speeding is OK…

Well, the bus wasn’t wearing hi-viz or a helmet, nor was it using the bus lane that the car, all on its own, had paid millions to build.

    18 months of Drivers and

18 months of Drivers and their Problems -1,000 posts

Thank-you all contributors. I mean it’s tough being a driver, the whole system is stacked against you, can’t do this,  mustn’t do that can’t park there and the expense: don’t even.  Mass car ownership and driving in the UK is in great shape and not remotely a policy with no future or one that stands to deprive a lot of people of theirs.

    Keep ‘ em coming.
