Moving blockade’ planned for one of Wales’ busiest beaches this weekend

Two grandmothers are leading the protests to highlight the gridlocks that regularly plague the area as tourists descend

Annwen Williams, 58, a grandmother-of-seven and protester, expressed the community’s frustration: “For years there have been lots of meetings and lots of talk but not enough action,” she said. For our free daily briefing on the biggest issues facing the nation sign up to the Wales Matters newsletter here.

“Well we are now the action. We’re fed up and we need things to change. And we won’t be backing down – this weekend’s protest won’t be the last. We’ll keep doing them until something is finally done to sort out the village’s traffic problems.”

On Sunday at 9am a group of villagers, including children, will embark on a “slow walk” from the heart of the village. Flanked by at least one tractor for safety they plan to take an unhurried hour-long walk down Church Street, which leads to the main beach car park at Newborough Forest.

A combination of the hazard and the likelihood.

If the pavement is provided to enable pedestrians to walk safely ie separate from the hazard (the road). Then blocking that pavement forces people to walk on the road putting them in a hazardous space. Increasing thier risk!

How would Op SNAP consider pedestrians walking down a dual carriageway?

And why is there any difference?

This is Gloucestershire where it seems danger is of no consequnce but inconvenience is everything. See the link below.

There are a few examples of close passes in Gloucestershire which have had no further action on NMOTD. I strongly suspect that the first of my reports to get points and a fine was not because of the close pass on a blind bend but because an oncoming supermarket delivery driver had to pull in and stop to avoid being hit. ie they were inconvenienced. See image below.

    Quite clearly incompetence of

Quite clearly incompetence of the highest standard by the driver. Or a combination of incompetence and driving an oversized wankpanzar?

A raised kerb has been installed to protect the pavement and the pedestrians we can so clearly see. Great design.laugh

Muppet driver cannot grasp that concept doesn’t stay outside the very clear double yellows that indicates a safe path.

Cut the corner at your own risk!

    Perhaps that’s the karma bus.

    Perhaps that’s the karma bus.

Emergency services could not get through to attend to a caualty because the casualty has parked abandoned thier vehicle blocking access.

Is it a new Darwinian effect?

    I can only hope that

I can only hope that insurance companies decline any responsibility for the losses caused by stupidity of the drivers.

You must not drive on the pavement upon a penalty of nothing at all.

Well that’s not true – just today, someone driving on the payment was subjected to a severe hard stare (from yours truly).

Thank you for your submission to OP SNAP.

Your evidence has been reviewed and we have decided that there is insufficient evidence for us to proceed with a prosecution.

Although the vehicle is technically committing a non-endorsable offence by driving on a pavement and in a cycle lane, the action has not affected or disrupted any road users or put any pedestrians at risk.
