My initial reaction on

Cotswolds driver faces ‘utterly shocking’ counter claim from council after pothole damages vehicle

My initial reaction on reading this was the same as the councilor but on reflection may be the county council have a point. Do drivers have a responsibility to avoid potholes and drive at a speed where thay are able to do so. I’ve never damaged a car (or a bike) by hitting a pothole, may be that’s luck or may be I drive to the conditions and err on the side of caution.

The other point is that its motorised vehicles that damage the roads and may be they should pay for the results of that damage.

Driver caused cyclist

Driver caused cyclist catastrophic injuries when he sped through red traffic light

The teenager was crossing the road when Jerzy Jozefiak ploughed into him

Sian Cutter, prosecuting, said at shortly before 2.30pm a 16-year-old boy on a cycle was crossing the eastbound carriageway at the light-controlled junction when he was hit by a Renault car. The youngster struck the windscreen and roof box of the vehicle before being thrown to the ground and skidding along the road, coming to rest some 20 yards away.

Jozefiak’s stopped his car in the nearby bus stop on Fabian Way and got out – his wife then climbed across into the driver’s seat from the passenger seat. The court heard she too then got out of the Renault and told passers-by that she had been driving.

Cotswolds driver faces

Cotswolds driver faces ‘utterly shocking’ counter claim from council after pothole damages vehicle

‘This strikes me as a blatant attempt at bullying and intimidating the resident into withdrawing his claim’, Cllr Lisa Spivey said

“The County Council is not just defending a claim brought against it by a resident whose vehicle was damaged when he struck a pothole, but has also accused the resident of causing the damage by driving negligently. This is a baseless claim as the Council has no evidence whatsoever that this is the true.”

M25 remains closed as recovery work goes on to remove crashed lorry after driver fell asleep

You can’t even fall asleep on the M25 now without the police telling you off!

Although the telling off appears to be an hours offence and not a driving offence

If it goes ahead, the council

If it goes ahead, the council said it would adopt a low key “soft approach” to ensure that any enforcement action considers the impact on drivers.

we’re having a crackdown on bank robbers, but we will adopt a “soft approach” to ensure that any enforcement action considers the impact on bank robbers

In South Lanarkshire, councillors this week showed support for the ban but have not yet committed to implementing it.

Councillors said levels of car ownership were higher than the amount of parking available in some residential areas.

Some bank robbers don’t have all the money they would like to, so we probably ought to let them go on robbing banks.

It’s chicken and egg – do

It’s chicken and egg – do aggressive drivers choose certain cars?

Yes. Nothwithstanding the usual comment that ‘it’s just confirmation bias’, there is no doubt that a bearded bloke (or worse still, a bearded bloke with tattoos) in an Audi or BMW is guilty and a psychopath. There aren’t enough Porsches or Subarus around here to form a reliable opinion, but Audis and BMW drivers are also more likely to be guilty of MOT, insurance and VED offences- hence T55 UEY today. No MOT for 8 months, reported in July, condoned by Lancashire Constabulary because they do tug their forelocks at drivers of big, expensive cars

…but no new staff to
…but no new staff to enforce it and exemptions for deliveries. Expect to see some creative definitions of the same.

Still, sometimes commitments in theory *do* mean something – I think this does signify positive change. I mean – if you can’t even do this in a city with “narrow historic streets” which has a year-round tourist sector to the economy…

Maybe it’ll help the buses get through? And even unblock some cycle lanes? OK… that’s a dream as many of these are totally legal to park in…
