A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

The opening practice session for the Las Vegas Grand Prix was abandoned after only eight minutes after Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari was struck with a severe and dangerous impact by drain cover. More than one drain cover was understood to have been dislodged and the FIA [Federation Internationale de l’Automobile] had to check the safety of all them across the street circuit to confirm their integrity. The incident was an embarrassing opening to the race Formula One’s owners are organising and promoting themselves with the aim of building the sport in the US – a market in which it is eager to expand. The costs of putting on the meeting in the heart of Las Vegas are believed to reach as much as US$700m. F1 described the incident as the failure of a “water-valve cover”.

Phone [hidden information] AndriyI might be wrong on this but it appears that a driver, probably at great speed, drove their BMW into a lamppost, which then went on to hit a Picasso and put a big hole in the roof. Now that is a driver with a problem and they only want £500 for that problem to be yours!

The police pull you over and fine you. It’s a war on motorists (and their world record practicing friends*)

Cornwall gran on warpath after being fined despite broken parking machine
Agnes believes the older generation is increasingly being excluded from our tech society
“The retired nurse from Tintagel said that the machine was out of service that day so thought there was nothing she could do about it and went off to enjoy Tom Hanks’ latest flick A Man Called Otto and didn’t think any of it.”
“That’s when I saw red,” Agnes said. “I wouldn’t know how to install an app. I’m not going to download apps for every car park I go to. How are people supposed to do all that when they’re old? My husband is 85. He has not got apps on his phone. He couldn’t park anywhere on his own now”
Come off it, you’re only 71. If hubby can’t manage an app, how does he safely manage 1.5t of car?

There’s a car park and a bike park when you turn right off the road. If they don’t know where they’re going and are just looking for a ‘P’ and hear ‘turn right into garage’, hmm. Impressive getting past the bollard at the entrance. Maybe they need more than the one bollard?!

It seems to me drivers get longer sentences for things they did afterwards, like covering up their tracks like a snivelling coward for example, than the deed itself.

David9694 wrote:Driver caused cyclist catastrophic injuries when he sped through red traffic lightThe teenager was crossing the road when Jerzy Jozefiak ploughed into him
Sian Cutter, prosecuting, said at shortly before 2.30pm a 16-year-old boy on a cycle was crossing the eastbound carriageway at the light-controlled junction when he was hit by a Renault car. The youngster struck the windscreen and roof box of the vehicle before being thrown to the ground and skidding along the road, coming to rest some 20 yards away.
Jozefiak’s stopped his car in the nearby bus stop on Fabian Way and got out – his wife then climbed across into the driver’s seat from the passenger seat. The court heard she too then got out of the Renault and told passers-by that she had been driving.

With a one-third discount for his guilty plea Jozefiak was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison – he will serve up to half that period in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community. The defendant was also disqualified from driving for two years with the ban extended by an additional 17 months to account for the length of time he will be behind bars.Hang on – but he initially tried to pervert the course of justice by getting his wife to claim that she’d been driving. And only changed his plea to guilty at a much later date. Why does he get a discount??
And don’t get me started on him serving “up to” 2 years and 10 months… <shakes head in a disgusted fashion>
