Café du Cycliste launch new gravel clothing range

The premium cycle clothing brand have added a technical hooded jersey and woven shorts to their range, both touted as 'gravel-specific'...

With Rapha's explore collection launching back in March following 'the world's first gravel-specific shorts' courtesy of Pedal ED, it appears gravel clothing is truly a thing... and now the French cycling apparel brand Café du Cycliste have embraced the niche too with a gravel range.

Is a gravel/adventure bike all you need?

The Solenne is a technical hooded jersey that "combines road cycling performance and an outdoor spirit", according to Café du Cycliste, with a textured top fabric to improve moisture transfer to regulate your core temperature while you're grinding over the gravel tracks. Café du Cycliste recommend it as a top layer in milder weather or combined with multiple layers for colder temperatures. The Solenne has a 'classic fit', with three cargo rear pockets and a red and green gravel badge (just so you know it's definitely for gravel riding).

You can complete your gravel get-up and just ride away Renée with the new Renée shorts, that use cutting edge fabrics to provide exceptional comfort and performance, so say Café du Cycliste. They have a slim cut and the hems are bonded to avoid friction, while you get two roomy side pockets with poppers to open and close them. There is no padding at the rear, instead they're designed either to be worn over padded shorts or on their own for shorter rides.

The Solenne is available now for £160 and the Renée shorts are £136, see the Café du Cycliste website for more info.

Arriving at road.cc in 2017 via 220 Triathlon Magazine, Jack dipped his toe in most jobs on the site and over at eBikeTips before being named the new editor of road.cc in 2020, much to his surprise. His cycling life began during his students days, when he cobbled together a few hundred quid off the back of a hard winter selling hats (long story) and bought his first road bike - a Trek 1.1 that was quickly relegated to winter steed, before it was sadly pinched a few years later. Creatively replacing it with a Trek 1.2, Jack mostly rides this bike around local cycle paths nowadays, but when he wants to get the racer out and be competitive his preferred events are time trials, sportives, triathlons and pogo sticking - the latter being another long story.
