We saw hundreds of bikes at last weekend’s Berlin Bike Show – Berliner Fahrradschau – and here are some of the coolest looking.

• Standert Erdgeschoss

We really like the finish on this prototype Erdgeschoss cyclocross bike from Germany’s Standert. The frame is made in Italy from Columbus Life steel tubing, the fork is carbon, and it’s built up with a SRAM Force 1 drivetrain and Zipp 30 Course Disc clinchers.

• Brick Lane Bikes Aeon

The Aeon is a new carbon option from Brick Lane Bikes. As you can see, it uses a fixed gear. The wheel on the back is Brick Lane Bikes’ own Notorious 90 and that’s the brand’s new Z3 tri-spoke on the front.

• Bella Ciao

This bike is handmade in Italy from double butted Dedacciai steel tubing. That’s a 48-tooth Sturmey Archer chainset on there with an 18-tooth sprocket at the back.

• Bididu Cycles Righty

This is probably the only bike you’ll see today with a single-legged rigid fork. There’s something else really, really odd about this bike too, and that’s not even counting the disc rotors that look like they’re styled on the blade of a circular saw.

Yup, the chainset is on the left. Bididu makes some less crazy bikes too. www.bididu.lu

• Viks stainless steel bike

Viks bikes, handmade in Estonia, have a dual frame – in that the top tube, head tube and down tubes are actually two tubes each – and there’s no seat tube.

The manufacturer reckons it takes about 60 steel pieces and two days to build each frame and another day to sandblast and finish it.

Brooks England is celebrating its 150th anniversary by enlisting 15 bike builders/brands to create a Brooks bicycle, and this is Canyon’s version. Each of the bikes has a copper theme, the copper rivet being an iconic feature of a Brooks saddle.

• Trek Emonda Project One

You can design your own paintwork and choose your own spec if you buy one of Trek’s higher end models and go through its Project One program. I wouldn’t say that this Emonda’s treatment is the most spectacular ever, but it demonstrates the scope of the system.
